Tom lays underneath the pillows and blankets of the fort. His phone continues to ring, but he ignores it.
"Am I going home tonight?" Lily asks.
"Do you want to?" Tom replies, Denise noticing that if the answer was yes, he'd freak out.
"No, but Mummy is calling you and we didn't call her back last night."
"No, we did not. That's because this is my time with you. Your mummy wants to take you away from me and I'm not letting that happen."
"Tom?" Denise says. "Can I talk to you?"
"What?"
"Come here."
Tom groans as he gets up from the fort. "Yes?"
"Maybe you should let her go." she whispers.
"Do you not want my daughter here?"
"Getting joint custody won't happen if you kidnap Lillian."
"This isn't kidnapping, I'm just not returning her to her mother until I want to."
"Thomas-"
"It's different, trust me. This isn't kidnapping. I know the difference."
"Legally, Tom, this is kidnapping."
"She's my daughter too." Tom quietly snaps, his teeth clenched. "Molly is a... a gold-digging whore and is trying to take her from me."
"Okay, that's-"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm losing my temper."
"The person I knew two years ago would be disgusted by anyone calling someone that word."
"Well when you hear it constantly, over and over again, while someone is forcing them self on you, you get the right to say it."
Denise buries her head in her hands and exhales. "Oh my Lord. Okay, um... go get her packed, she's leaving tonight."
"This is our apartment-"
"You need to let her go home. She'll be back, I promise. When Molly gives you the clear, she can be here all she wants. We'll set up a space for her, alright? We can get the curtain things and... and screens so she gets privacy. Everything will be figured out but we need to do it in a manner that's not going to make Molly keep Lily away from you."
"She's my daughter, Molly has no right."
"If Molly takes you to court for custody, she's going to win. I'm sorry, honey, but... but they're not going to grant custody to someone with a DUI who's been in and out of Oakwood, one of which for a suicide attempt. I know you're upset and I understand that, but you just have to let her win right now and you will in the end, you'll get to have Lily whenever you want. She's just worried about making sure everything is okay."
"Of course it's okay, she knows that."
"Tom, she-"
A loud pounding comes through the door. "Damn it." Tom snaps. "I'm not answering."
"You have to answer it."
"Daddy?" Lily says. "The door's knocking."
"Sit down, we're not answering."
"Thomas?" A muffled Molly says. "Thomas, open the GD door."
Denise gets up to answer it, but Tom quickly gets in the way of her path. "Sit down."
"Thomas, this is my apartment and we have to open the door."
"She's my daughter, you're not opening the door."
