There's a triggering word and flashback, but I feel like a proud mom! You'll see why.
"Denise, I'm sorry." Tom says as he gets out of the car.
"Please don't." Denise says. "I hope that you feel better and maybe in a while I'll contact you to make sure you're doing fine, but don't contact me, alright?"
Tom closes his eyes and nods.
"Bye."
Denise drives away, leaving Tom standing in front of the yard, looking at the street.
He walks up the steps to the front door and knocks, forgetting that he still had a house key in his key ring.
"Tom," Molly smiles. "Come on in, dear. Let's get you settled."
"Where's Lily?"
"At Grace's. I didn't want her here when you came home because I thought that you'd want a little but of time to yourself. Let's go upstairs."
"Upstairs?" Tom says. "Alright."
Molly takes the bags and Tom hangs onto the railing, slowly taking each step up.
"Are you okay?"
"I've been confined to a small room for a month before any physical activity burns calories. I'm a little slow on stairs right now."
Molly grabs onto his hand and helps him walk up the stairs. "Well," she opens the door and smiles. "Home sweet home."
Tom walks into... Molly's... his... their bedroom. "It's different."
Molly had painted and moved the furniture around. Their bed was now on the other side of the room.
"I didn't want to sleep in our bedroom anymore. I can change everything back if you'd like."
"No, no, it's fine. Maybe this is good, we get a new start for the both of us."
"A new start is always good."
"Let's be new again. Let's put everything in the past. I don't want to live with it anymore."
"Okay." Molly smiles. "It's all in the past. We'll focus on your recovery and moving forward."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome, darling."
Molly puts her hand on Tom's shoulder and kisses his cheek. "Why don't you lie down and I'll unpack for you?"
"I've been laying down for a month, I want to move."
"Okay. I'll be here if you need help with anything."
"Thanks, dear."
Tom sighs and slowly takes stacks of folded clothes out of the duffle bag. "You know, I can't lie, I feel really bad about what I did."
"You were sick." Molly eases. "You didn't have a choice."
"No, I mean about Denise. She truly did do a lot for me and I... I broke her trust. She practically gave up the studio so she could be with me all day and I broke up with her."
"People break up with each other everyday. It's nothing she hasn't dealt with before."
"This was a different situation, Molly. Tim wasn't... Tim wasn't raped and was in the hospital because of an eating disorder caused by that. Denise has never dealt with a break-up like this."
Molly looks up at Tom and a slight smile crosses her face. "Good for you."
"I thought you'd be proud."
Molly walks over and places her hands on his face. "Words have no meaning-"
"Unless you grant them that meaning." Tom finishes. "I figured I'd try it."
"And?"
"Well that's obviously not something I want in my daily vocabulary but I want a fresh start and new Tom isn't ashamed or scared of that word anymore."
"Good. I won't print it on a sign but I am proud of you." Molly teases.
Tom laughs and pulls Molly closer. "I missed you. I'm really glad we don't hate each other anymore."
"Me too, but I never hated you. I was mad but I always loved you."
"I wish I could say the same," Tom slightly teases. "I kinda hated you after you said the Matt thing."
"I'm sorry. That was horrible of me. I lost my temper."
"I know. You've got a quick fuse."
"I do."
"Let me finish putting this away, alright?"
"Okay, honey. Go ahead, I'll be here."
Tom opens his wardrobe and grabs the gym bag he was using for storage. He hears a clink in the bag and pulls out a bottle of whiskey.
"Tom-"
"This was from before my DUI." Tom says. "It's not new. I'm gonna go dump it."
"I'll come with."
"Molly, I need you to trust me. I said, this is a new, healthy, reborn version of myself. I'm not drinking anymore, I'm not taking pills or hurting myself. I'm just dumping it."
"Okay."
Tom walks into the bathroom and opens the bottle. The smell is amazing as it fills his nose but he turns it upside down and hears it spew into the sink.
"No, no more."
"Come on, just another sip."
"I'm gonna throw up."
"No, you're not." Matt says. "This'll make you feel better."
"I don't feel good, please no more."
"The ketamine isn't kicking in yet and I'm getting impatient. Drink up or I'm starting with you awake."
"Everything is spinning and it hurts."
"That'll go away if you'd drink some more. I wouldn't do anything to hurt you, I love you."
Tom looks into the mirror as he dumps the remainder of the alcohol.
He walks out of the bathroom and grabs Molly's keys.
"Where are you going?" she asks. "You don't have a license."
"There's something I need to do and I need to go now."
"What... what do you mean?"
"You need to take me to the cemetery."
"The cemetery? Why?"
"I have someone I need to see."
