There's a super fucked up part of this chapter that I hate with a pure passion.
"Hi, baby." Molly smiles as she walks through the door. She sets down he purse and gasps when she sees the large bruise on her daughter's arm. "What the hell happened? Are you okay?"
"I'm okay, Mummy." Lily says. "It hurts but Daddy gave me something to help it."
"Thomas, what happened to my daughter?"
"She tripped down the stairs. It looks bad but everything is okay."
"Lillian, what was Daddy doing when you fell?" Molly asks, holding her daughter.
"He was in the bathroom using the toilet." Lily replies.
"And you didn't think to take her to the hospital?"
"I did." Tom says. "But I didn't because she could move her arms and fingers just fine. I gave her an aspirin and I've been icing her arm."
"Let's take you to the doctor, okay?"
"They're not gonna do anything mean right?"
"No, no, darling. They're going to help you."
"Okay." Lily sighs and follows her parents to the car. They drive in silence the whole time, Molly clenching her teeth while trying not imagine Tom getting hit by a car. Nothing to cause fatal harm, of course, but just enough to knock some sense into him.
Molly carries Lily into the office. "Hello, I need someone to please do a check-up on my daughter."
"Name?"
"Lillian Claire Hiddleston."
"Age?"
"5 years old."
"What happened?"
"My husband was home with her, I just home to see her arm like this." Molly says.
"You make it sound like I pushed her down the stairs." Tom quickly snaps. "I was in the bathroom and Lily was playing upstairs. I got out when I heard a loud bang and she'd fallen into her arm."
"Okay. A nurse will take her for examination. I'll need you two to please wait here."
"Why? I want to be with her."
"It's protocol. In children, injuries like this can sometimes be a sign of something not too good. We just have to talk to her. I'm sure that you have nothing to worry about and we'll call you back inside after they talk."
"I understand."
"Go with the lady, okay, sweetheart?" Molly smiles.
"Where am I going?"
"They're going to make you feel better. Daddy and I will see you soon."
"Okay, Mummy."
Tom and Molly watch as Lillian walks away with the nurse. She turns to him, and with clenched teeth, she says, "How much were you drinking?"
"What? Nothing, Molly, that's insane."
"I know you're drinking again."
"I can't drink, I told you." Tom sternly says.
"Just swallow the pills with some Jack."
"Last time you had me drink, I was severely out of it. Like I couldn't feel like hands. I'm not doing it again."
"It won't hurt you."
"I had trouble before."
"I know. I won't let you get out of hand. You're taking pills and you're fine, right? You're not craving Ketamine?"
