Another day for a f-ked up flashback. Although no one enjoys writing or reading it, I feel like it adds more to the reader's understanding of everything and kind of makes it more understandable, Tom's feelings I mean.
This one isn't anything physical like the last ones and this takes place a few hours before the last flashback from last chapter.
It's just 🤮 though. Matt is so f-king icky.
Tom's phone runs on the nightstand. Although he was awake, he slumped over to grab it. "Hello?"
"Tom? Good morning."
"Good morning."
"Did I wake you?" Emma asks.
"No, no. I've been up for awhile."
"Good. Well, run downstairs really fast and check the front porch, I sent a package for you."
"Oh, that's very sweet but I'm quite tired. I'm sorry. I hope I don't seem unappreciative."
"No, I know, but I really think you should come downstairs right now. I gave direction for the deliveryman to not leave until you got it."
"Emma, I'm not dressed properly."
"Oh, it doesn't matter. Just go downstairs!"
Tom pulls himself out of bed. He wraps a cardigan around himself, he felt freezing.
As he opens the front door, Emma yells, "Surprise!" and dives forward to hug him.
"Oh, Em, what are you doing here? What about the kids?"
"They're with their dad. I asked Molly if I could come and she said it was okay. I wanted to surprise you."
"Oh, that... was very kind. I'm sorry I look like this. The house is a wreck and-"
"Number one, I lived with you for 15 years, seeing you in pajamas is nothing new. Two, your version of messy is the world's version of spotless, you're fine."
Tom starts to wash mugs that are in the sink, to which Emma walks over and takes the plate from his hand. "I haven't seen my brother in months and you're washing dishes? Come on, sit."
Tom sits down on the ottoman. He rarely sat with his feet on the chair, but Tom wrapped his arms around his knees as he sat.
"Are you okay?"
"Mhm." Tom blankly smiles.
"What's going on? You uh... you don't look good."
"Didn't sleep. I was kept awake by... dreams."
"Is there anything I can do?"
"Give me amnesia. Although with my luck, I'd forget everyone but him."
"I wish I could fucking kill him for what he did to you."
"Well one of us did and promise me, it's not as fun as you'd think."
"Come on, let's think happy. What good has happened to you lately?"
Tom looks down at his socks, trying to come up with us response. "Um... you're here. That's something good."
"Okay. What else?"
"I don't know." Tom whispers.
"There's nothing good you've experienced since I last saw you?"
"N-no, not really."
"We're gonna change that. Go get dressed, we're going to breakfast."
"Em-"
