Kotaro stopped at the door. When the meal was over, he immediately followed Thoki to return home and collect his things. Nanaya would have liked to accompany them, but his father needed him to make some improvements to his arm. In front of his house, Kotaro hesitated to enter.
"You can stay here," Thoki assured, "I'll just ask you if I need to find anything."
"No," the teen mumbled, "I'm fine..."
He took a deep breath and walked out the door. However, he turned to the living room when he saw the silhouette of his mother drawn in chalk on the floor. The floor was still red there, soaked with the blood that had flowed there.
"Do you have any business in this room?" Thoki asked. "I'm taking care of it."
"Me no... but my mother has... had her appointment book, next to the pc. She always preferred to write them down by hand."
"Maybe it's best to get the computer back, too, before someone decides to break into the house. Not everyone respects the dead."
Kotaro nodded silently, letting the butler go unplug the machine and retrieve the notebook. The teenager walked to his bedroom to retrieve his laptop. He put his clothes away in a suitcase they had brought. It didn't have a lot of them so they all fit in, plus a few papers, photos and decorative items. He left with the suitcase full, about to enter the bathroom, but Thoki stopped him.
"What do you have to take?" Asked the immortal."I can..."
"No. Believe me, I entered it earlier. Your sister was there."
"... my shampoo, my shower gel, my hair color and my hairdressing equipment... I'm going to drop the suitcase in the car and... get my mother's sewing machine. "
Kotaro walked away, leaving Thoki to take care of this room. He did as he said and was just dropping the sewing machine in the car when the butler joined him with some official files and papers. He must have searched a bit, but there were things that needed them to get back, like Kemori's birth certificate, their health records, and everything else Kotaro would need when he came of age to get the inheritance he was due. Thoki refrained from talking about it for the moment, the young man wasn't able to think about these problems at the moment.
They made a list together of what they had collected to make sure nothing was missing, before getting back into the car. Kotaro was relieved it didn't take as long as they had expected. Thoki decided to stop in the city center to give the teenager a pick-me-up at an ice cream stand. Kotaro asked for his favorite, avocado, and Thoki went classic with vanilla. They sat down on a bench to eat them, in silence.Kotaro pulled out his mother's notebook at the same time to take a look.
"What are you doing ?" The butler asked.
"I'm going to have to cancel her appointments," the young man muttered, "like the one at the hairdresser on Tuesday... she was due for a medical exam in three weeks as well."
He kept flipping through the diary until December. He frowned as he read what was written there and saw the invoice, already paid, slipped between the pages. After a moment, he chuckled nervously, as tears rolled down his cheeks again.
"Damn... she really did..." he mumbled.
"Shime-san?"
"Since I'm in college, I want to get piercings, but the other asshole... hm... my father, he said that it was gay and that it was shameful enough that I didn't have to show it to everyone."
"I suddenly want to be a prison guard ..."
"She made an appointment for the twenty-sixth of December. She already paid for both piercings... it's my Christmas present..."
