While he has been enrolled since his birth in Darkeas, the school of supervillains, Uchiri Nanaya ends up by mistake in Aitori ... the school of the Magical Girls.
Nanaya had spent a whole day with his father and aunt. He had of course taken the opportunity to discuss his friends' desire to come and help Thoki. The butler assured that he did not need help but that if that was what they wanted, he would happily accept.
Nameko had told them about her childhood. Like Nakamara, she had been ignored most of the time, both by her father and her brother. Unlike his sons, Natsuo completely accepted his condition and his treatment. He was completely indoctrinated by his father and only thought about studying and training to become the next Experion. For him it was an honor and being beaten if he made mistakes was necessary. Nameko admitted that her brother scared her much more than their father. If their father, Uchiri Nariri, was content to ignore him, Natsuo often hit his sister. However, she had not kept the physical marks but could never forget.
They decided to change the subject and played a board game together before going to bed, having a good time as a family.
When Nanaya returned to school, he was bombarded with questions from his friends. He responded calmly and confirmed that Thoki accepted their help.
Now that he had met his great-aunt, Nanaya was eager to meet his grandmother too.
The week passed quickly. They were simply following their classes, the only difference being the presence of the Americans. Saurity's second year class seemed particularly agitated, since Kōtarō and Ichirō were hanging out there.
The day of the first duels arrived.
Again, to make sure the students didn't use their powers, they had to wear the suppressors or have their scepter confiscated.
Maggie Schultz and Rakko would fight first. The fights took place in one of the training arenas. Only a few teachers were inside, around the combat zone. Drone cameras were flying all around too and screens broadcast live images all around the building and on the internet.
Nakamara was once again the center of attention while explaining the rules. It was simple hand-to-hand combat. No weapons or powers were allowed and students would simply wear their sports uniforms. The first of the two to find themselves on the ground lost the match.
While the rules were being laid out, the fighters prepared in individual locker rooms. They could follow along thanks to a screen placed there for them. Their closest friends could see them for a few seconds to encourage them. Rakko of course received a visit from Monaka, Kenji, Mineko, Tomeo, the twins, Enko, Yūto and Nanaya. Kōtarō and Rena were in their own locker rooms since they would also be participating.
Rakko thanked them and let them go. However, he grabbed the arm of Nanaya who was coming out last, made sure the others weren't looking and stole a kiss.
"You can slap me if you want," he whispered, "but I thought it might bring me luck..."
"Oh, well if it brings you luck, then..."
Nanaya stood on tiptoe to, this time, kiss him himself. He smiled at him, wished him to win once again, and joined the others.
The air was heavy with anticipation as spectators waited for the fight to begin. It didn't take long for Maggie and Rakko to enter the arena, facing each other. Maggie was a little smaller than Rakko. Her guardian, a green rabbit with floppy ears, fluttered near Phen-X, stationed in the area.
The whistle sounded, signaling the start of the match. Maggie and Rakko circled around each other, studying their opponent's movements, looking for any weakness to exploit.
With high speed, Maggie suddenly lunged forward, aiming for Rakko's chest. Saurity's student, however, was just as fast and easily dodged the blow. He countered with a thunderous uppercut, catching Maggie off guard and sending her staggering backwards.
Blood leaked from Maggie's split lip as a fire ignited in her eyes. She charged at Rakko again, launching a series of devastating hooks and strikes. The future hero, however, demonstrated an uncanny ability to predict the magical girl's every move, effortlessly dodging and countering with his own crushing blows.
The fight intensified with each passing second, the crowd becoming frenzied as the fighters exchanged blows. Each punch or kick landed with a resounding thud, echoing through the arena, but neither Maggie nor Rakko showed any signs of hesitation.
As the rounds progressed, Rakko's agility and speed proved effective. He circled around his opponent, landing precise blows that left Maggie reeling. With a burst of energy, he took advantage of a moment's distraction to punch the back of her knee, sending her crashing to the ground.
Amaretto, who took the role of referee, whistled to indicate the end of the fight. Rakko huffed and approached Maggie to help her up.
"You're a good fighter," he said in a bad English, "didn't I hurt you?"
"A little dazed," she joked, taking his hand, "but I'm okay."
Rakko was then designed as the winner of the first duel. He was therefore going to participate in the second round. He played fair and supported Maggie to Phen-X so she could rest and get treatment.
Sakitaki Makami and Katagiri Rena were announced as the next pair.
The two girls also had time to prepare and receive encouragement from their friends, while the spectators stocked up if they felt like it. The school had called on traders to run kiosks around the arena.
Of course, Mineko didn't miss the opportunity to support her girlfriend. She didn't want to let go of her and especially begged her not to be hurt. Her sign language was not perfect and Nanaya translated the majority.
Rena gently reassured her and kissed her to calm her down. They were still with her when she was called, so she left them to head into the arena and face Makami.
Unlike Maggie and Rakko, they had always trained together with Amaretto, since they were the same year. Each therefore knew the strengths and weaknesses of the other very well.
