Flashback 7 years ago
"Dad, please don't go!" I yelled while my dad packed his suitcase.
"I'm sorry sweetie but I just can't stay her anymore." my dad said, avoiding eye contact.
My mom was sitting quietly at the edge of the bed. I could see tears falling from her face, but she said nothing.
"Mama, don't let him leave!" I said while shaking my mom, but she wouldn't respond.
My dad had finished packing and was already going to the door.
"Dad!" I yelled as I rushed down the stairs.
He didn't even turn around. He just hopped in the car with his new girlfriend and left. I knew my parents had a lot of issues in their marriage, but I never thought my dad would leave. I was always closer to him, so when he didn't take me with him it broke me. I remember standing at the window for hours, waiting for him to come back, but he never did. That's when my life started to go downhill. My mom started doing coke a few months after he left, and she hasn't stopped since. I miss my family, or at least I crave what it was.
Jay groaned loud in my ear and finished causing me to come back to reality. I couldn't help but make a disgusted face, of course Jay didn't see since I wasn't facing him. I remember I used to think he loved me, but now I know I'm just. piece of meat he can do whatever he wants with.
"If you're good, I'll let you back upstairs," Jay whispered in my ear, "Just give me what I want when I want it, and you'll get your privileges back."
I slowly nodded my head, but I couldn't bring myself to look at him. Apparently, that was enough because he got up and left. Jay turned the lights off, so I was left alone in the pitch-black room with my thoughts. How am I ever gonna escape?
TIME SKIP December 20
I'm due in eight days, and to no one's surprise, I'm still in the basement. I have an actual bed down here now and some arts and crafts. Jay comes down here every couple of nights. As I was thinking, the door unlocked.
"Since your about to have the baby, I'll let you come upstairs." Jay said while he walked towards me.
"Thank you! I felt like I was going crazy down here." I said in a happy tone.
"Good, that was the point," Jay mumbled before lifting me up.
I could barely walk, so going up the stairs was hard, but I eventually made it with Jay's help. I took a deep breath as soon as I got inside his office. I felt like I was finally free.
"Jay," I whispered.
"What?" he asked.
"Please don't take me down there again," I said, "Please.
"Jay hesitated before finally settling on, "Don't ever disrespect me like that again."
I quickly nodded my head, and then I did something unexpected. I hugged him. Now don't get me wrong, I still hate him, but he's the only one that didn't leave. My mom, my dad, Claire, all gone. Jay was shocked at first, but he eventually wrapped his arms around me.
"Come on, let me show you the nursery," Jay said while leading me upstairs.
He had his good sides, but don't get me wrong when I say I would escape one day. Whatever it takes.
