Two months later

I'm currently four months pregnant, and Jay wants to know the gender of the baby. I wanted to wait until they were born, but he said he couldn't wait. I didn't want to start a fight, so I scheduled an appointment. Jay and I have been together for 9 months, and I couldn't be happier. Sure he has his flaws, but he really does treat me well.

I wore the tan and white set I got from Forever 21 a few months ago. I'm glad I got some comfy clothes cause that's all I wear. I paired with some plain white sneakers and put my hair in a bun. I didn't put on any makeup since I already had that pregnancy glow. I looked in the mirror and decided I looked fine before heading downstairs.

Jay was already on the couch waiting on me, he had on a grey tracksuit. He was smirking at his phone before briefly looking up. He immediately went back to looking at his phone before turning it off and walking outside. Something told me he wasn't just looking at a funny picture on Instagram, but I brushed it off. We got in the car, and Jay began driving. Jay didn't turn on any music, but I didn't bother asking him to. After a little while, I dozed off. I abruptly woke up to a door slamming shut. Jay had got out of the car and was looking at me through the front window. I begrudgingly got out of the car and followed Jay to the clinic.

"Hello, do you have an appointment?" a kind-eyed old woman said.

"I calle-," I managed to say before Jay began talking over me.

"Were here to see the gender of the baby," Jay said.

"Ok, what's your name darling?" the woman said after giving a weird look to Jay.

"Her name's Simo-" Jay said.

"I asked her, not you," the woman said in a clipped tone before directing her eyes to me.

"I'm Simone," I said in a soft tone.

"I see you called yesterday, Dr. Amina will be with you shortly," the woman said.

"Thank you," I said before sitting in the waiting room with Jay.

There was another woman there with her daughter and partner. I looked at the child smiling at her mother and immediately felt happy. I looked down at my belly and thought about what my child would look like.

"Simone?" a voice called out.

Jay and I stood up and walked with her through a hallway.

"Hello, I'm Dr. Amina, and I'll be doing your ultrasound," she said, "I'm aware you this is your first child, so don't be nervous."

"Thank you for your concern, I can't wait to see my baby," I said excitedly as soon as we entered a white room.

It had pictures of laughing babies, pregnant women, and tips on labor. I went to lay on the bed while Jay sat down on the chair in the corner. He had been quiet since we left, and he was on his phone the whole time in the waiting room. I wanted to tell him to get off his phone, but I knew that would end badly.

"Sir, I would recommend coming here so you can see the baby better," Dr. Amina said.

Jay said nothing, but he still walked to my side. She put some cold gel on my stomach and rubbed it in with some device. I grabbed Jay's hand when she started to look for the baby.

"There they are, do you hear the heartbeat?" Dr. Amina said in a happy tone.

I nodded my head and listened to the rhythmic beats. I never had someone that was not only there from day one and stayed, but this baby was gonna stay. I was gonna protect this baby no matter the cost, I never felt safe with my family, but this baby was going to always feel safe.

"What's their gender?" Jay asked he seemed very distant.

"It's a-
