Nini looked at herself in the mirror, straightening out her outfit preparing to head to school. She'd spent the entire summer bettering herself and becoming who she wanted to be.She'd bought an entirely new wardrobe, and she worked on her mental health. She started jogging everyday so that she could clear her mind, and it definitely had a noticeable effect on her appearance.
She was literally glowing
After she was happy with the way she looked she headed out the house, and to the Starbucks closest to the school. She knew she'd be no good without her coffee.
"Hi, welcome to Starbucks, my name is Andrew how can I help you?" The cashier said, and Nini looked up at him with a smile. He was noticeably cute, but Nini was too interested in Ricky to really notice it.
"Hi, can I just have a venti iced caramel macchiato upside down?"
"Alright and will that be all?"
"Can you add an extra pump of caramel syrup and caramel drizzle too. Sorry I should've said that earlier" Nini laughed slightly
"Oh it's no problem" Andrew smiled at the girl, his smile bright and radiant. He was very attractive "anything else for you?"
"Nope that'll be all" Nini smiled
"What's your name? For the uh for the order of course" Andrew said, it came out more nervous than he intended it to but it was to late to go back now
"Right for the order" Nini joked and Andrew laughed softly as Nini smiled at him. "Nini"
"Huh?"
"My name, it's Nini" she said with a slight grin
"I like that, it's unique"
"Thanks" Nini slightly blushed "uh whats my total?"
"Uhhh it's $6.08" he said before she scanned her Starbucks app "alright Nini, you're good to go! I'll see you around?" He asked and she nodded with a grin
"Yeah" she said before heading to the other side of the Starbucks to pickup her drink. There was something about Andrew that she found interesting. She didn't know what yet, but she was going to find it out.

Nini walked into the school building with an entirely new attitude. She had this glow about herself that you didn't see often, and she definitely wasn't the same girl that she was last year.
She caught the eyes of many students standing in the hallway, but it wasn't a bad kind of attention. The students were admiring her
"Is that Nini Salazar-Roberts" Jeremy, Ricky's friend asked
"Yeah, why?"
"She looks different. A good different" Jeremy said and Ricky took notice of Nini. He'd seen her before at his house when she'd be there for Gina but he never really noticed how much she changed
How beautiful she really was.
He watched as the girl walked down the hallway, her curly hair falling well below her shoulders, her smile radiated across the room. She's was simply beautiful. She definitely wasn't the same girl he'd known since he was younger
"Yeah, I guess she does" Ricky said not able to tear his eyes away from the girl
"I might try and ask her out" Jeremy voiced, instantly causing Ricky to tear his eyes away from the girl
"Dude what?" Ricky said with more annoyance in his voice than he intended to have
"I mean if you like her then I'll back off" Jeremy put his hands up in surrender
"What? No! I do not catch feelings" Ricky said defensively, emphasizing the not in his sentence. He didn't know why he became so defensive but he was
"Then why can't I ask her out..." Jeremy asked and Ricky honestly didn't have an answer for his question. He didn't know why he had the reaction he did.
"Oh, because um she told Gina that she wasn't looking for a relationship. I guess she wants to focus on school this year" Ricky lied
"Oh well thanks for looking out" Jeremy said before walking off and Ricky sighed trying to figure out why he got so defensive of himself and of Nini.
He didn't have feelings for her, right?
"Hey Gi" Nini smiled as she greeted her best friend at her locker.
"You went to Starbucks and didn't get me any?" Gina asked
"Sorry, I probably should've texted you and told you I was going. I'll get you some tomorrow"
"Okay thanks" Gina smiled brightly.
"You look nice Nini" a random boy walking past told Nini earning a smile
"Thanks" she said
"You really do Nini. You're like glowing"
"Am I?" Nini asked and Gina nodded "I guess I'm just finally happy with myself you know? I spent all summer trying to get myself to the person I really want to be and I think I'm finally that person"
"I'm happy for you Nini. It's obvious that you're happier" Gina smiled
"Thanks Gi"
"You're coming over after school right?"
"Of course" Nini smiled brightly
"Let's just hope Ricky doesn't have one of his girls over. It gets really old watching him bring a different girl in and out of our house everyday. Sometimes I wish he'd just settle down with someone" Gina voices and Nini slightly shifted uncomfortably at the thought of him with so many different girls
She wished he'd settle down with her
"Hey babe" Ej said walking up to Gina resting his arm over her shoulder and pressing a kiss against her forehead "hey nini" ej smiled
"Hey Ej" nini offered him a smile back "i should probably get to class. It's a pretty far walk from here" Nini said grabbing her things
"Alright, I'll see you later?" Gina asked and Nini nodded walking off.
Gina turned her attention to Ej beginning to tell him about the dance she was choreographing and the progress that she was making on it.
Nini walked through the hallways on her way to class when she saw Ricky flirting with yet another girl per usual. She'd be lying if she said she didn't feel a bit of jealousy at the sight.
She sighed before walking past the two trying to avoid eye contact.
Maybe it's time to give up on Ricky, he'd never be interested in me She thought.
