I sit in the front seat with my feet up on the dashboard. Dallas was driving me home from the Nightly Double. I didn't want to go home, deal with Darry and Pony's arguing, then get stuck in the middle of things. I wished I could just disappear. I didn't want to say anything to Dal, figuring he didn't want to hear me complain, but then he took a different route to the house. "where are we goin?" I ask. He doesn't respond. I look out the window and think to myself, left to wonder where he planned on taking us.
The silence was soon interrupted by the sound of Dal's voice, "it's too quiet, find somethin' will ya?" he nods his head toward the radio. A slight smirk creeps upon my face as I pull my feet down, leaning forward to find a channel. I turn the knob and scan through each station quickly, not looking for anything in particular. That is until I hear the beginning to a song far too familiar. I turn the volume up and kick my feet back up onto the dashboard.
I hum the tune and tap my foot. Dal, who was drumming his hands on the steering wheel, doing the same. "I thought you didn't like The Beatles?" He scoffs, "I don't," he places his hands firmly on the wheel, "they're just.. I don't like em" he mumbles the last part. "whatever you say" I roll down my window and turn the volume up a little more. I feel the cool breeze on my face as we cruise down the street, I faintly sing the words,
"well shake it up, baby, now, shake it up baby, twist and sho-"
The music stops. I focus my gaze from outside to Dallas, who had a smug look on his face. I hit the button once more, only for it to be shut off.
"seriously?" I cross my arms and sit back in my seat, not bothering to find something else to listen to. "man, don't do that"  "don't do what?" He lets out a low chuckle, "don't do that thing where you pout 'til you get your way"  "what? No, you're just upset because you like The Beatles!" I tease him. He grips the wheel, "no, I don't"  "you do!!" I laugh, now sitting up in my seat, "I bet you like em more than Elvis!" I face the road and see him shake his head out of the corner of my eye, "you know that's not true".
I put a hand on his shoulder, "I don't know, that Paul McCartney guy is pretty cute..." I bite my lip to hold back my laughter. He lets out an aggravated sigh, "you want me to take you back home?" I put my hands in my lap, "damn it.. no". He smiles, "yeah, that's what I thought" he pauses, "and Elvis is way better than those Beatle guys" I let out a stifled laugh, "obviously". He clicks the radio back on, "but just this once they can be good"
We keep driving for the next few minutes, both of us enjoying the music playing, until I feel the car ease into a stop. I turn to face him and he tilts my chin up, leaning in, planting a soft kiss on my lips. "you better now?" I smile and nod my head. "good, now I'll see ya tomorrow, alright?" I open the door and step out of the car, "alright".
"I love you, you need anything just let me know" he sends me a wink.
                              "I love you, too"
I wave at him as he drives off.
Man, I'm the luckiest girl in the world.
