My Baby My Choice

Cheryl Stone
I have demanded that the children's names remain the same, but the adopted name can be added to the end of their names. Jamie Wesley Stone and Todd Alexander Stone. My last visit to dr Roberts had been bad and I made arrangements for my funeral with what money I had left. When you OB/GYN tells you to make arrangements for your funeral and find someone to adopt my babies. I think fate had a hand in me arriving at the exact time Dr Grey was on duty in the ER. Her daughter Mia and I went to school together. I liked both of them, they treated me very well. They were there for me when Todd was killed. I allow the nurse to take Jamie to the children's ward to play while I give birth.
Dr Roberts
I try as hard I can to save Cheryl but the blood loss was too great. I pronounce her death and call dr Grey and ask if she can call her daughter and son in law and ask them to come to my office with an attorney.
Grace
I call Mia and ask her and Thomas to come to the hospital a friend of hers from school has died and left her something very precious.
Mia
Mom takes Thomas and I to the nursery and shows us Todd Stone and then to the children's ward and shows us Jamie Stone. She tells me they are orphans that Cheryl left them to me and Thomas. She hands me the documents and I have dad read them papers over.
Carrick
She wants you both to adopt the boys she thinks that Mia would be a great mother to her boys. She wants you to keep the names on their birth certificates, but add your last name of Sawyer. Here is your chance to have a family Mia. Cheryl died three hours ago. The boys are healthy.
Thomas
I ask if they have clothes at their home?
Carrick
That is a good question, we will have to get things for them until we know anything. The pediatrician said the medical records can't be released without paperwork which is with these documents. We have to find out where she lived and get Jamie's things and anything else they might need.
Dr Roberts
The baby was given a a thorough check and Jamie as well.
Three days later I release both boys to Mia and Thomas Sawyer they have custody papers until the adoption papers go through.
Mia
Mom told me that Jamie is crying for his mommy and we will have to handle him with kid gloves. She said it won't be easy on him since he is so young and he will adjust at some point, but we have to always have patience with Jamie. Todd however is a new baby and as such has never bonded with his real mother, so I need to create that bond and so does Thomas. We have worked hard to get rooms ready for the boys and have. We were able to get all of Jamie's things and everything Cheryl bought for Todd. The landlord asked if we were the new parents. She apparently knew Cheryl wasn't going to make it. They had discussed everything and she handed us a box that contained things that Cheryl asked her to give us. It was a locked box and she handed us the key to it. Apparently she baby sat Jamie and told us a few things and pointed out his favorite toy and book. She asked if she could see him once in a while? I give her our names and numbers and we take everything out of the apartment we thought we would want for the boys. It turned out to be a bigger job than we thought, so we had people move the rest of the things to our house. Cheryl had very few things for herself. Photos were plenty though along with albums. Kids things were all about education in her apartment. She had a car as well, so we asked the landlord if we could leave it there for a week? She told us someone was interested in buying from the estate. She handed us the potential buyer.
Thomas
This turned out to be much more work than we expected. I forgot about possible assets given the circumstances. Apparently she set up trust funds for the boys for when she died. It was meant to help the adoptive parents, but we didn't need that kind of help.
The adjustment is difficult at best. Jamie cry's for his momma and we try to console him. Crying himself to sleep has become the norm in our home. Todd has been a good baby and Jamie has finally decided he has to protect his baby brother at this point. Now he helps with Todd and Mia and I include him in everything we do for the baby and he picks out clothing and books and toys. For a young baby himself he is very bright.
Grace
I stop by Mia's to make sure everything is going well with them. I can see they finally got Jamie settled down and he is a great big brother to Todd. He helps as much as a baby can that is barely a year old. Thomas arrived and Jamie went running into his arms. I laugh and see how easily Jamie adjust to having Thomas around.
Mia
He is a daddy's baby, Thomas loves that he gets that kind of welcome home from him. He loves Thomas and Thomas loves him. He felt it once he stopped crying for Cheryl. I can't break through yet, but I am giving him time and allowing him to come to the conclusion he came to with Thomas.
Grace
He will just give him the time and space to finally see that you both love him and everything will be okay once he realizes that.
