Grave Flowers (Mikado Sannoji, SDRA2)

Warning: spoilers for sdra2 chapter 5, the members of Void, and death! AU where chapter 6 doesn't exist!

This was kinda based off a twitter prompt, a "what happens next" after Mikado meets Utsuro, and the more I kept writing, the more it began to look like "The Letter She Kept Waiting For" by mothy.

As soon as Mikado woke up from the virtual world, a pair of guards seized him and arrested him on the spot. The wizard had expected this, but he didn't bother fighting back. It would be meaningless anyway, considering that he had already gotten exactly what he had wanted in the end.

After the executions of the spotless were interrupted and the simulation restarted, the surviving 'students' had found each other thanks to Monocrow. To Mikado's shock, Yuki's avatar was duplicated and one of the two standing before him was who he was trying to create: an Alter Ego of his late saviour, Utsuro.

Sora, who received all of her memories as Akane but still felt like they didn't belong, tried to stop Mikado from getting close to either lucky student, but after a brief altercation, the wizard finally spoke to Utsuro. Utsuro remembered who Mikado was, to his delight, and the two of them talked philosophically for a while about Divine Luck. The blonde kneeled down and kissed Utsuro's hand, and the others observed that Mikado seemed a lot calmer and at peace. It was after that when the simulation was shut down and the survivors were logged out.

As Ryutaro and Keisuke handcuffed him and led him to the ship that brought the Kisaragi Foundation to the island where the lab was, Rei and Tsurugi took Yoruko, Yuki, and Sora into protective custody while other guards placed Iroha and Syobaiunder arrest for assisting Mikado. Sora managed to evade punishment despite her past because of her dissociation with her former identity.

Mikado spent three days sitting in a cell on the ship, humming to himself while Iroha loudly said prayers from across the hall. He was still on cloud nine from finally meeting Utsuro in person, fulfilling his life's purpose from his childhood. Alter Ego Utsuro was gone now, his code deleted along with the virtual world, and all that was left was the bodies that were being kept in the ship's morgue. Still, he was content.

When he was taken off the ship along with the others, he was separated from them and brought to the side, continuing to be held by guards as Rei took her pistol out. "You've met your god. Now join him." She growled, preparing to pull the trigger at the exposed side of Mikado's face.

The lynching was interrupted by the sound of a loud helicopter getting closer. As Rei looked up, she recognized it as a Future Foundation helicopter and put her pistol away. After motioning to Ryutaro and Keisuke to keep holding the wizard, she went to go meet whoever was approaching them. She reluctantly stood beside Tsurugi as the helicopter landed in front of them.

The door opened and Byakuya stepped out. "Ah, Tsurugi and Rei. Just the kind of people I was looking for." The heir sighed. "Give it to me straight, is that Mikado Sannoji over there?"

"Yes, I was just about to give him what he deserves." The professor answered coolly.

"Well, I have a warrant for his arrest by the Future Foundation for stealing the blueprints of a confidential foundation device, arson, murder, kidnapping, and hosting a killing game." Byakuya explained. "With all due respect, we actually have a warrant for his arrest, so hand him over."

"...I hate to admit it,but you have a point. Keisuke, Ryutaro, put the criminal in the helicopter!" Tsurugi ordered, and the two of them went right to carrying out his order. "If I may ask, what will become of him? Will he be executed?"
