"Person A is dead. Been dead for centuries. A is buried underneath Person B's home. Person A becomes reanimated, and Person B is the first person that Person A meets in the modern world."

Holy SHIT this took forever to write. At least I can finally post this neat story, even if it's long as hell!

Warning: SDRA2 chapter 3/5 spoilers, DRA chapter 6 spoilers, animal neglect/death

"Mom! Mom! Tell us that bedtime story again! The one about the cursed man!" a young Hibiki asked, looking up from under her bedsheets. Kanade was in an adjacent bed, petting a white kitten on her lap.

The woman beside Hibiki's bed laughed. "Alright, alright. Move your legs so I can sit down," she requested, and the child did as asked. The woman sat on the bed with a big book of Japanese legends, and she cleared her throat.

"Once upon a time, in an age where the gods had a hand in the stories of men, the creator goddess Izanami played a trick and caused a man with a curse to be born. It was a curse of good luck, one that would make anything he wanted to go his way. But these results happened in an instant, with the man having no control of how they came to be. If he wanted food, then a rice field would suddenly appear. If he wanted someone dead, then an unfortunate accident would make them a casualty.

"But this luck began to drive the man mad with boredom, and he used his luck to bless children who were in terrible situations, but out of boredom rather than good will. One day, he was approached by a tyrannical warlord, who told him that the misery he caused under her would show him new emotions.

"Becoming her subordinate, the man laid waste to a string of villages along the coastline before a wave destroyed the cliff he stood on. The man was swallowed by the sea, as well as the curse he held and had spread across the land. Many who were without the help of his curse perished. With this great loss of life caused by the ruler of Yomi, the goddess Benzaiten showed her mercy.

"To those who lived virtuous lives despite their curse, they were accepted into the celestial realm as servants for their wisdom of not becoming greedy. But for those with the curse who had sinned, their spirits were reincarnated over time as animals domesticated by humans. It was both a second chance for them to atone for what they did, and a degrading punishment for the sinners who were once human. The soul of the cursed man was stolen from Izanami and made into a messenger to the goddess Inari for atonement. The end."

Hibiki had fallen asleep while listening to her mother's soothing voice reading, but Kanade was still awake and listening. She remained quiet and faked her sleep though, her parents seemed to pay more attention to the older twin than the younger.

After their mother closed the book and left the bedroom, turning off the lights and closing the door, the white kitten nuzzled Kanade's face comfortingly. The younger twin opened her eyes and smiled, drawing her precious kitty closer.

A decade had passed, and the twins had grown older. As their talent grew as a two-person band, so did their popularity. Their cat was surprisingly long-lived, and had outlived many of Hibiki's friends over the years - though Hibiki was unaware of this fact.

But once they became idols, Kanade became concerned for the cat. If they travelled and preformed a lot, then it would be difficult to take care of the cat and maintain its safety. Hibiki was distressed over the cat, but the decision was made after their manager finally disappeared to give the cat over to their parents.
