Kanade smiled and straightened her uniform as she waited in the classroom, surrounded by tepid student counsel members. There was only one member they were waiting on, and then their monthly meeting would begin.
The student council was primarily made up of class presidents and presidents of different clubs, as Hope's Peak Academy believed that pre-existing students leaders would be the best ones to assist the school. Club leaders and class presidents weren't official members of the student council, but still had to be present for meetings. Kanade was the president of the music club; Hibiki thought that the student council was lame and didn't want the role.
The door opened, and Kanade's heartbeat sped up as the final member walked in the room. "Sorry I'm late, the teacher was giving me a hassle," Sora apologized, going to a desk and sitting down. "Wouldn't even let me leave for a meeting, seriously."
The Ultimate Student Council President began their meeting, but Kanade wasn't particularly interested in hearing about some stupid statistics or records. Instead, she kept sneaking gazes to her class president, Sora. The girl wasn't interested either, she looked like she had better things to do.
If you told Kanade a year ago that she would keep killing for her sister until she fell head-over-heels for an amnesiac white-haired girl after enrolling here, she would have disembowelled the messenger. But in her eyes, the worst-case scenario has already happened.
Kanade couldn't pinpoint an exact time when she fell in love with Sora, but the time she realized that she was already hopeless was when the telltale signs of jealousy began welling up in her upon seeing Sora interact with a guy at that school. Her temper flared, and she wanted that man dead.
She got her wish later that night when she was heading to the convenience store to get some candy and manga, she saw the man going to the school to get help on schoolwork. When the store cashier asked why there were traces of blood on Kanade's legs, where she forgot to clean while being tired late at night, she reacted as if her period had came and she didn't expect it.
Every since then, she had an eye on Sora. But since the white-haired girl was quite sociable, it was easy to approach and befriend her under the pretext of needing help with cleaning. Hibiki seemed to like Sora too, which Kanade saw as an absolute win, and Sora began to hang out with the Otonokoji twins more.
When the student council meeting was over, Kanade ran to catch up with Sora at the door. "A-Ah, Sora! Wait up!" she called, running to her side as the taller girl slowed down.
"Kanade, hello. What's up?" Sora smiled, as complacently and innocently as ever. One of the things the guitarist loved.
"A-Are you still down to come to Hibiki's and my place for the movie night? I just don't want any thing to interfere with our schedules," Kanade explained, hoping deep down that she would still come over.
"Don't worry, I'm still on for tonight." Sora smiled reassuring, and the guitarist felt a wave of relief course through her. "I'll show up at seven as I promised, my annoying roommate just wants to make sure I eat before I go."
Kanade resisted the urge to grit her teeth in frustration as she smiled back. "Alright, thank you! Hibiki and I will see you then, you already know our address!" she called, and began hurrying away from the classroom and towards the exit.
As usual, that roommate of Sora's seemed to be fussing over her more lately. Sora's roommate was another classmate of theirs, Mikado Sannoji, who Kanade knew she couldn't fight using normal means. If this 'Ultimate Wizard' could defeat Hajime Makunouchi in a sparring match, the latter having the best fighting ability she's seen, what was she supposed to do? And he seemed to be adept with toxic chemicals, so no hope there.
In an attempt to deter any close attachment with Sora, Kanade had been slowly pushing Nikei Yomiuri closer to him, the Ultimate Journalist who had discovered the 'Curse of Melody Rhythm' and was getting a bit too close for her liking. She hoped that Mikado would start getting attached to the journalist instead, that would save her from any physical intervention.
Kanade took the bus back to her and her sister's house as she brainstormed ways to keep Sora closer to her, perhaps more sleepovers would work before Kanade asked her on a date. But it was too soon for that, she needed to get closer to her a little more first.
When it was already close to seven in the evening, several hours later, Kanade anxiously waited beside the door. "Kanadeeeee! Is Sosie here yet?" Hibiki called as she went down their staircase, bringing a bunch of blankets and pillows with her to the living room.
"N-No, sister, not yet..." she replied, but then heard the doorbell suddenly go off. "Speak of the devil," she muttered to herself, then opened the door with a smile.
As she expected, Sora was waiting on the other side of the door. "It's around seven, I hope I'm on time."
"Yeah, you are! Come in!" Kanade welcomed, standing aside and letting the white-haired girl enter her house.
As she closed the door, she heard Hibiki cry out "Sosiiiiiie!" and run into the class president's arms. The sight of those two hugging was very cute in Kanade's eyes, and she stood nearby for Hibiki to predictably drag her into the hug. And the guitarist never fought it, not when Sora was involved with the hug.
Kanade wasn't worried about her sister stealing Sora's heart in the slightest, Hibiki seemed to be shooting herself in the foot with her treatment of the younger twin. Kanade specifically remembered having to manipulate them both privately out of a fight with each other. But even if Sora chose her sister, at least she would still be in Kanade's life.
"We should get our movie night started soon. Kanade, could you help me with the popcorn?" Sora asked, parting from the group hug.
"Of course she can, Kanade's the best at it!" Hibiki declared. "I'll set up the movie, I'll be ready when you guys are!"
Later that night, Kanade sat beside Sora on the couch under a blanket as they watched 'Spider-Man 3,' with Hibiki already asleep. "...Now that sis is asleep, should we change it? This movie kinda sucks," she whispered.
"Yeah, I'm not a big fan, but Hibiki wanted to binge the trilogy. The first two were alright, I have to admit." Sora stood up from the couch and went over to where the sleeping vocalist lay. "I'm going to bring her to her bed, is it alright if you choose something better?"
"Of course!" Kanade whispered back, watching the girl pick up her sister with very little strength and leave the living room. It was getting pretty late into the night, but based on how Sora asked her to choose another movie, Kanade hoped she was staying over tonight. Maybe, in the future, she needed to pretty up a space room and turn it into a spare bedroom for Sora.
