Y/n's POV:
"So, what's wrong?" I ask and grip Nats hand.
"He's alive. Only time will tell now if there's any long term effects." Bruce says. I almost collapse onto Natasha out of relief.
"Can I see him?" I ask when I'm able to form a proper sentence again.
"He's unconscious right now. He needs his rest but you can go in for a moment." He nods and opens the door for me. I thank him hundreds of times before walking into the dim room.
Peter is asleep in the bed and I sit down in a chair next to him. I take his hand in both of my hands and rest my forehead on our intertwined fingers.
"Oh my god Peter I'm so sorry." I whisper, not even bothering to wipe the tears away.
"It's all my fault." He adjusts a little in the bed and lets out a soft snore. I can't help but smile at his bed hair. The smile fades as I remember why he's in the bed.
I sit for what feels like an eternity, just waiting, hoping that he'll wake up. I hear a soft knock on the door so I sit up and wipe my tears.
"Come in." Tony comes in but I don't let go of Peters hand. By the way he's looking at me, it seems like he knows about us. There's no point in hiding it anymore. He looks at Peter and his jaw clenches. He holds his wrist and takes a deep breath.
"Come with me Y/n."
-
I pick at the skin around my fingernails and bounce my knee over and over again. Tony walks in with Steve and he closes the door of the office, located across the hall from Peters room. Usually, I would say something stupid or funny to try to release the tension but I don't have any energy left.
"Y/n, you and Peter did something immensely stupid. You shouldn't have gone to the station in the first place." I can tell Tony is trying to calm himself but it's not working.
"I'm sorry-"
"Sorry? Sorry isn't going to heal Peters bullet wound. It isn't gonna wake him up." He isn't yelling, but somehow this makes me feel worse than if he was shouting in my face.
"What do you want me to say then? Look I'm so sorry for disobeying you but I had to know why he needed the serum and about my father." My voice cracks and I hold in my tears. How did Peter and I end up like this? What started as exhilarating and reckless now seems ignorant and irresponsible.
"I understand the need to know more but you didn't have to bring Peter into this. He almost died." Steve speaks up. Although he's trying to sound soft and be the good cop in this situation, my cheeks flare red with guilt.
"I told him to leave. Austin was pissing him off so I said it was okay for him to leave but he didn't. All he wanted was for me to be satisfied. He wanted me to move on from this but I was too stupid to want more. And now I've seriously injured him and," I let out a choked sob and wrap my arms around my torso.
I can feel Tony's eyes on me as he pulls up an audio clip on his computer.
"This whole situation would've been acceptable if you hadn't had lied to me about your relationship with Parker." He presses a button on the computer and the audio plays. It's a recording from my suit.
"Please don't leave me like this Peter. I love you." I clench my jaw and look at the floor. Shit. There's no way to get out of this one.
"So let's review here Frizzle." He begins counting on his fingers. "I offer you the chance of a lifetime to become an Avenger with really only one rule; no dating in the team. You agreed to that rule and I thought we were good. Then you spend every hour you possibly can with Parker and I even allow you to go to school with him. After that, you pull him into a stupid shenanigan to find info about your dead father which almost kills Peter too. Therefore breaking our promise that you wouldn't distract him or let him get hurt. Please, if I missed anything, let me know." He puts his hands on his hips. Steve stays quiet.
I open my mouth to object, but I close it when I realize everything he said is true. I really don't know if my dad is alive. For all I know, it was just an elaborate way for Austin to get under my skin. Nonetheless, I had relied on Peter for support in this whole thing, not even knowing if he was okay with it. He got hurt because of me. He almost died because of me. I almost lost him.
And it was truly all my fault.
"I think you just about covered it all." I say grimly, avoiding eye contact with the two men.
"Good. Now, Steve and some of the team have discussed the damage you've caused us-"
"Hold on." I interrupt. "You don't get to talk like I'm a burden here. You easily took me away from my home and you can just as easily throw me out." I stand and he tilts his chin up, surprised.
My phone chimes on the desk and I look.
"Where ru?" Peter has texted me. I wave of relief washes over me and I start walking to the door.
"Not so fast Y/L/N." Steve says.
"What now?" I ask annoyed and put a hand on my hip.
"Well, you should be somehow punished for this. I think you need your suit taken away." My stomach drops.
"What? No no no you can't take away my suit please no." My suit lets me do good things. Fight bad guys and shit. That's what he wants me to do right?
"Y/n you screwed up big time. Your mom would kill you if she was the one making this decision. Speaking of her, we talked and I told her about all of this. Her and I have decided on another option besides the suit. But you won't like it any better than this." I bite the inside of my cheek and I tap my fingers on my jeans.
Anything would be better than taking the suit away. I mean, the suit is my key to being a superhero. No one knows me, they know Spider-Woman. Without the suit, I won't be able to leave and swing around New York anytime I want. Besides, how worse can the option be than taking the suit from me?
"What do you need me to do?" I ask.
Tony looks behind me and I turn. He's looking to Peters room. Stark looks back at me and I know exactly what he wants. More specifically, what he doesn't want to happen anymore.
Oh no.
