Y/n's POV:
I wake up in a cold sweat and am immediately hit with blinding pain in my head. I slow my breathing and it's only then I realize I'm not at the tower. Where the hell am I?
I look up and my eyes meet a poster for an old 80s movie. It's then I realize.
I'm in Peters bed.
I sit up quickly and look around the room. He isn't here, and when I look down, I'm not wearing my dress anymore. Instead, I'm in one of his shirts.
I don't know how I got here. I don't know why I'm not at the tower and I don't remember most of last night. I'm about to get out of bed when I hesitate. This will most likely be the last time I'll be here. In his shirt. In his room where we spent so much time together. I feel sick.
At some point I get out of his room and call around the house for him. I don't get an answer.
"Peter? Is anybody here?" My head is throbbing and I feel disoriented.
"Y/n I'm in here." Aunt May calls from her room. I stop. Do I want to go in there? I could leave right now and not have to face her. But where is my dress?
She appears holding a laundry basket. She smiles gently, but she seems hesitant.
"Hi May." My voice is hoarse and it cracks at the end. Her face softens.
"Do you want some pancakes? I'll make you some pancakes."
"Oh it's okay you don't have to-"
"I'm making you pancakes." She says in a voice that I can't say no to.
As she makes pancakes I sit awkwardly at the counter. She gives me a glass of orange juice and an aspirin. I take it willingly and try to make conversation.
"So, d-did I, you know, do anything last night?" I ask nervously. She smiles and flips a pancake.
"As far as I know, no. Peter wouldn't do that." I nod. Of course he wouldn't. May wipes her hands on her jeans and takes out a letter from her pocket.
"He left this for you. He's at the Stark Tower right now talking to Tony." She winks and hands me the letter along with a plateful of pancakes.
I begin to open the letter but I stop. I don't want to open this in front of May, and I already feel sick. I put it to the side and begin to eat. I promised myself I would stop hurting because of this.
I finish eating and May gives me my dress and a pair of her jeans for me to wear.
"May?" I ask as she begins to walk back to her room.
"Yes honey?" I bite the inside of my cheek and look down.
"I promise that it was never my intention to hurt Peter. If he was ever in pain because of me I-I didn't ever want-" I choke up and uncontrollable tears start to form in the corners of my eyes. She wraps her arms around me and rubs my back. I give into her touch, missing how good this makes me feel.
"Both of you are so strong. You've had to sacrifice so much. This isn't your fault." I want to object, but I can't find the words to say it. After a moment I go back to Peters room and grab my purse. I put the letter in my bag and take a minute to just stand in his room.
We didn't go to his house a lot. We usually met at the tower because it was easier to lie about our relationship there. Still, I cherished the times in here when we were completely alone, and not having to worry about a superhero next door. He has little trinkets scattered around his room. One of them is a little duck statue I got him. A picture of us is framed on his desk.
He's coping the completely opposite way of me. I tried to erase everything; give him back his things and bury the rest with my lingering feelings. But if someone looked into his room, it would seem like we were still together. If someone looked into mine, it would seem like he never existed.
The familiar pang of guilt washes over me. May pulls me out of my thoughts and knocks on the door. She is holding a battered old shoe box.
"Peter was cleaning out his room the other day and he had this box of things. He wanted me to throw them away but I think they're for you." She hands the box to me. I almost laugh. I give him a box of things, he gives me a box of things. He's giving me a taste of my own medicine.
