Peters POV:

"Detention at lunch in my class. Both of you."

Y/n looks at me with surprise and a begging in her eyes.
"Please just go." She whispers. There's tears threatening to leave her eyes. I apologize, not sure if it's directed to Mrs. Caldwell or Y/n, then leave.

The nerd getting detention is always a sight to see, even if they're popular or not. I guess it's because I rarely ever get in trouble. The only reasons I've gotten in trouble is because of Y/n. The first time I got detention, I didn't care because when I got to the tower after school, I wasn't going to be ignored by her. But now, everything's changed.

When I walk towards Mrs. Caldwell's room, I can't ignore the funny stares and laughs from the people around me. I begin to feel anxious as Mrs. C stares me down.
"It's a surprise to see you here Peter." I mimic her in my head. She's the one who wrote the slip. It shouldn't be a surprise to her.

I sit a row away from Y/n, who is staring down at her hands. My chair squeaks and she looks up at me. Her gaze is a mixture of anger and guilt, and is only broken when Mrs. C goes over attendance.

Throughout the rest of the day I get the same emotional stare from Y/n, but I don't talk to her again.

Later on I asked MJ if she had heard anything, but she said no. The knot of worry in my stomach never loosens, especially when Y/n doesn't even look at me in our last hour.

The bell rings and I grab my stuff. Y/n puts her bag on and almost runs out of the class. I walk quickly toward her but she disappears in the crowd of people trying to get home. There's way too many people around me. I have to clear my head.

"You and me. Star Wars movie marathon. New Lego set. My house." When Ned gets excited, he forgets to form full sentences. I wish I could match his excitement, but I feel too anxious right now.
"Sorry Ned I can't. Mr. Stark needs me." He doesn't, but I can't think of another excuse.
"Ugh. Sometimes it sucks that your best friend is a superhero." Ned clicks his tongue and I shrug my shoulders.
"Yeah it really does suck." MJ says from behind me, but I don't know if she's talking about me or Y/n.

I say goodbye to them and walk out to the snowy air. I've given up trying to call Y/n, but I text her, apologizing for detention. She doesn't even read it. Screw this. I'm not mad at her, I'm mad at the world. At Tony. At the school.

I walk to a nearby alley and quickly put on my suit. I might not be able to go to the tower, but maybe this will calm me down.

Y/n's POV:

I look at the black uniform in the mirror. It's too baggy and smells like it's been wrapped in plastic for too long. I had gotten back to the tower and immediately needed to get dressed for work. My job is to clean at a tiny diner nearby. They finally gave me a uniform, but I wish they hadn't.

I put my hair in a low ponytail and reapply mascara. I don't even look remotely good. My eyes are swollen from crying and I look like I haven't slept in a while. Today was terrible. With the boy trouble, detention, and bad grades, it's almost starting to feel like my old school. I've been too busy with that I haven't had time to think about my dad.

Austin had somewhat revealed that my dad could be alive. He wants me for the serum, but he hasn't tried to get it since the fight at the police station. Maybe it's all over with. I don't know why I feel unfulfilled. I mean they're all dead right? No one is trying to hurt me now. I have more things to deal with than to worry about that.

"You're late." A gruffly voice says to me when I walk in the diner.
"And your clock is off by five minutes. I'm exactly on time." I snap. He lets out a huff and gives me my list of things to do. Scrub the floors. Unclog the toilet. Sweep the eating area. A bunch of shit for so little pay.
