Y/n's POV
"Y/n. Why didn't you tell me about Kail?" I look down at my hands.
"I don't know." I don't want to talk about it. I quite possibly have just killed someone.
"I-is he dead?" I whisper, afraid of her answer.
"No not yet. He's badly injured though. They don't know if he's going to make it." She sounds guilty when she hasn't even done anything. I realize she must me incredibly disappointed in me because of this and that's why she feels guilty.
My stomach falls and I feel like I'm going to puke.
"I didn't mean to mom I'm sorry." I say barely audible.
"Y/n, I need you to tell me what happened." I look behind her and five police men stand at the door.
"You called the cops?"
"What else was I supposed to do? Please Y/n just tell them what happened." I hesitate. Are they going to take me to jail? Then again, I probably deserve it.
So I tell them everything that happened. I tell them how much Kail was hurting me and harassing me. I let them know it was out of self defense and that I am a minor. I tell them everything my mother wants me to say. She wants me to stay out of prison, so I will try as hard as I can. I'm the only thing she has left.
My hand gets unstuck from my hair and the police give me weird looks.
"It's a medical condition." I inform them.
They walk into another room to discuss things and mom walks over to me. She sits down next to me and takes my hand. She seems more cautious by the way she sits. She sits farther away from me than usual and doesn't grip my hand like she used to.
"I'm not going to hurt you mom." I tell her and she looks at me with tears in her eyes.
"I got a call from Kails mom. He just passed away."
"Oh my god. Mom I didn't mean to I promise!" I almost yell.
"Hey you need to calm down we'll figure this out." She says unconvincingly. I break down and she holds me tightly.
"How did you do it?" She asks after a few minutes.
"I don't know. I was angry and it all balled up and then I just pushed him. I'm not that strong I don't know how it happened." Mom looks distant, as if she's far away.
"Mom. I'm so scared. I don't want to go to jail." I begin to shake and she holds me tighter.
"I won't let you go to jail. I promise." She stands and gets her phone. She walks into another room out of earshot from me.
The rest of the day is a blur. It is filled with policemen coming in and out and no eating or sleeping at all. I had never tried to hurt someone before and I become more and more guilty, believing I need to go to jail.
After hours and hours of this nonsense, the authorities decide because it was in self-defense, I won't be charged with manslaughter. Although, I will have to go to juvenile detention until my court date.
I hate this for several reasons. First, I hate this for my mother. She is losing me for god knows how long right after she has lost my dad. Two, I hate Kail because I wouldn't have had a reason to kill him if he would've just stayed away and kept his hands to himself.
And third, I feel like I deserve much more punishments than what was given to me.
I try to think of what my dad would say, how he would react if his daughter just killed someone. He was much worse at hiding his emotions than mom, and I know he would be angry at me. He would be even angrier at Kail and the police and practically everyone involved with this. Mom would cool him down and my dad would comfort me as much as he could. I need that comfort now.
My mom took me to my room to pack my things. She seems lost in thought.
"Mom, what's going to happen to me?" She sets down a pair or jeans and closes the door to my room.
"Y/n, I sincerely don't know. I have no idea what's happening but I need you to promise me you will behave. No matter what happens or where you go." I furrow my eyebrows.
"What do you mean? I thought I was going to juvie" she puts her hands on my shoulders.
"Please just promise me." Her brown eyes bore into mine. I nod. She pulls me into a hug and kisses my head.
"Mom what are you not telling me?" She looks at me as if considering telling me something, but stops when a police man knocks on the door.
"We're almost ready." Mom calls back. She opens my closet which is practically empty now and gets a box from the top shelf. She pulls out a large stack of money out of it and a credit card.
"Take this."
"They're going to confiscate it at the detention center." She presses her lips together.
"Take it Y/n" she says sternly. I step back and take the money, putting it in my suitcase.
"Y/n I love you so much. Stay strong for me honey." Tears well up in her eyes.
"Mom what is happening? Where am I going?" I begin to panic and I'm taken away by an officer.
"I love you baby stay strong." My mother calls as the officer pulls me out the door. I pull my arm away but stay with him. There's another one behind me with a gun and I almost laugh at how ironic this whole situation is. Rachel would wet her pants if she was in my position. I have to stay strong for my mom.
I walk out and several interviewers stand on the front steps. Cameras swarm me and I hear questions like why did you kill Kail Stevensons? Was he your boyfriend? Did he rape you?
I clench my fists at these questions because none of the questions are in my defense. They're all for Kail and his stupid faults.
So, I flip all of them off as I pass.
We walk up to a car which surprises me. I assumed it would be some big van like in Criminal Minds. I put my suitcase in the back and whoever's driving doesn't get out to help me. I get into the car and hit my head against the seat. I close my eyes and sigh.
"So, is this gonna be a normal field trip? With the Frizz? No way! Awwww cruising on down Main Street all way to juvenile." I sing The Magic School Bus theme song and begin to dance a little. Humor is my coping mechanism.
I'm almost done when the officer puts his hand over my mouth.
"Alright Ms. Frizzle. That's enough singing for today." I open my eyes and look at him. He looks incredibly familiar.
"Where's the handcuffs?" I ask him. He has a weird beard and is wearing a suit.
"We don't need handcuffs."
"Have you seen the news? I think you should for your safety." I mimic one of the policemen from this morning. The guy doesn't answer. I turn around and jump back a little, startled. There's a tall bald man in the back with a black eye patch on. He hasn't said a word since I got in.
"Hey bald man. Are you guys kidnapping me?" Bald man clenches his fists.
"Something like that." I turn my head back to the bearded guy.
"You look familiar."
"Well, I get that a lot." He puts out his finger and I shake it.
"The names Tony Stark. I'm your uncle and the one that's bailing you out of jail. You're welcome."
