Y/n's POV:

"And he made a whole suit for me. It was beautiful but I don't know it scared me."
I had talked to Peter for about an hour, telling him everything that Tony said to me, except for the relationship thing. I don't want to make it awkward between him and I, seeing that he is the only true friend that I have right now.

"Well, I had to deal with that same problem, but sometimes you just have to rise up despite how you feel. It will pay off I promise. Once you are out there saving people, and you see how grateful they are for you, then it'll all be worth what you had to give up." He looks distant, as if remembering things he hasn't yet to tell me. I want to take his hand, to have him trace circles on my palm like he did last night.

"If you were in my shoes, you would take the job right?" I ask, taking a drink of my water.
"Yeah. I mean if you don't then," he runs a hand through his hair.
"Then what?" I ask, covering the page of his book that he's reading so he can answer me.
"Then when will I be able to see you?" His brown eyes connect with mine and I realize how selfish I'm being. Peter isn't being shy like he usually is. He stays searching my face and doesn't look away. I feel overwhelmed.
"I-I gotta go Peter."
"You okay?"
"Yeah I'll be fine." I look into his adoring eyes one more time before grabbing my stuff and walking out.

I sit on the roof of the tower. It's not very windy today, which means perfect viewing of the city.
"Y/n? What are you doing up here?" Steve asks, running closer to me as if I'll jump off the tower at any second.
"I needed to think." I say. He sits down next to me but he looks stiff.
"I don't think you're allowed to be up here." I put my chin in my hand.
"I don't care." He nods. We sit in silence for a while, giving me time to make my decision.

"I used to come up here a lot when Bucky wasn't Bucky." I had heard about what happened to Bucky but I didn't know how it affected Steve.
"I'm guessing Tony asked you to join?" He asks and I nod.
"God it's like joining a cult or something. He's already made a suit for me and everything." Steve laughs and I relax a little.

"I don't know I'm just, I'm nervous I guess. Indecisive. I don't know what to do. I don't feel like I deserve to have this. I mean, I kill someone and now Tony wants me to become an Avenger because of it? It doesn't make sense." I tear a piece of bread off of my sandwich and toss it to a couple pigeons on the roof.
"He didn't recruit you because you killed someone. He recruited you because we need more people with your power. Think about it this way. If you say no to this, and we go on a mission and we have one less person, then that could wreck our entire mission. If we don't have one more person, then more people could die because of that. Think about the people who need saved. They need you." He says and nudges me with his shoulder.
"Murder and all?" He smiles.
"Murder and all." He stands up and pats me on the head.

"This can be a hard decision, but remember, they need you. That's why Stark picked you." He leaves me alone on the roof. I had never thought about it that way. This could be my redemption.

I get up and walk back to Tony's shop. He's doing something on his computer and looks up when I come in.
"Hey Frizzle."
I tell him that I want to join the team and he gives me my suit.
"Remember Y/n. This comes with a lot of responsibility. Are you sure you want this? Because there's no turning back." I take a breath and nod.
"You have to promise me one thing. That you won't hurt Peter or distract him."
My heart clenches. What does distracting him mean? Does it mean to stop being friends with him? Surely not. I mean, that's all we are, right?

But then I remember what my dad would say. Don't get distracted by a boy. Start with yourself, then your career, then you can look for men. And I know he's right.
"If I'm fully committing to this, and if people need me, then I won't let our relationship go past being friends." He nods and pats me on the back.
"Good. Now, let's go tell the team."

Mostly everyone is in the living room or the kitchen relaxing and getting a snack. Peter is on his laptop with his earbuds in at the counter. He doesn't even notice we walk in because of the music. Steve stands from his spot at the table and taps on Peter to take off his headphones. His eyes interlock with mine and he blushes a little. Quit Y/n.

"Everyone I have an announcement." Stark shouts. They all quiet down and look at us.
"Y/n has decided to join the team. Welcome Miss Spiderwoman, the newest member of the Avengers." I laugh and they clap for me. Peter grins and claps big for me. Steve winks at me and Nat nods proudly. I feel like I am at home here, and a wave of adoration washes over me.

I walk over to Peter who is standing with his hands resting against the counter.
"I didn't just do this for you Parker. I wanna help people." I say, taking a drink of his apple juice.
"And I bet that's exactly how you felt when you killed Kail?" I punch him in the arm.
"You jerk." I say and he laughs his golden boy laugh which makes me smile.
"I'm joking I'm joking. Truly Y/n I'm glad you decided to stay. I was worried you were gonna leave." I want to take his hand, but I put my hand close to his so our pinkies are touching. He moves his finger and puts it on top of mine, almost as if we're pinkie promising something unspoken.
"I'm glad I'm gonna stay too." He smiles and I allow myself one look at his lips. I bite my lip and he blushes.
Just like friends do.
