Peters POV:
My alarm goes off and I groan. I was already awake because I've not been sleeping well recently. Ever since I found the box full of y/n's stuff, I've been distracted and can't stay focused. She's invaded my mind even more than when we were together. The thought that it might not ever be like how it was scares me. What did I do to deserve this?
I get up and put on my sweatpants so I can run. I shiver as I step out of the apartment. Waking up at 5:30 is never easy, much less when it's this cold outside. Still, I can't complain. Running is the only thing that keeps me from thinking of her.
I run for an hour and get in the shower when I get home. I let the hot water beat against my back and run my fingers through my hair. This is my first day back at school. I distract myself by thinking about what elaborate lie I'll have to tell my class this time.
When I get out I check my phone. No messages from Tony, Happy, or Y/n. Wait. I'll see her today. The thought makes me excited but nervous too. What if she doesn't talk to me at school? That's really the only other place I see her. If she doesn't talk to me there, when am I ever going to see her?
I put on some clothes and try to deal with my hair, but to no avail. I leave it puffy and grab my backpack. When I put on my jacket a piece of paper flutters to the ground. It's the letter Y/n wrote me. God I hope she talks to me today.
The bus ride to school is packed with people and I put in my headphones to ignore the others around me. I play the playlist Y/n and I listened to on our first date. On this same bus. It's eerie how much everything reminds me of her.
I'm almost late to my first class. I don't have this class with Y/n so I force myself to do the class work. Before I know it that class is over. When I walk out, my eyes search the crowd for her. I see her y/h/c hair and her green backpack. I let out a sigh I didn't know I was holding in. At least I know she's alive.
I walk to my locker and hers is a few doors down. She seems to be walking towards her locker with MJ, but then she makes eye contact with me and walks right past me. My brows furrow in confusion. What was in her eyes when she looked at me? Confusion? Worry? I look to MJ, desperate for answers. She shrugs her shoulders and talks to Y/n. I watch her leave. Again.
Y/n's POV:
"Is there something you should tell me Y/L/N?" MJ asks me, apparent that she saw me look at Peter. I haven't told MJ about what Tony said to me nor have I told Peter. I need to stop being a pussy and tell both of them, but I can't. I don't want to hurt Peter again. If I told him what I've been holding in for so long, it would hurt him as much as it did me.
"Nope. There's nothing wrong. Everything's perfectly fine." I know she can hear the anger and pain in my voice but she doesn't question it.
"Ok. Hey if you need to talk then you can come over if you want tonight. I don't have any plans." This is rare. She usually has something going on.
"Sorry M. I have to work tonight." That isn't bullshit. Tony set up a job for me at this local diner so I can "get the working experience."
I allow myself to glance back to him once. He looks confused and almost angry. Why does everything in my life have to be so fucking complicated?
Peters POV:
"Peter. We must talk about the elephants in the room." Ned says when I shut my locker. I tear my eyes away from Y/n's direction and look at him with confusion.
"What? Elephants?" I shrug my backpack on and he follows me to class.
"There's two. One. Guess who has a new lego set for us." He points at himself and grins.
"Oh. Great Ned." I say. I know I sound distant.
"The other one is what is going on between you and Y/n? She came to my house the other day and was all like-" I stop him.
"Wait. She came to your house?" He nods and pushes my hand away.
"Yeah. She was crying and stuff and brought me the Lego Death Star. She said she didn't need it anymore so I took it back. It's now proudly hanging in my room." My heart drops.
She's giving away all the stuff that I've given her. The sweatshirts. The Death Star. The photos. What had Tony said to her?
The next class goes by in a blur. My head is filled with questions. I retrace the moments before this hundreds of times. I still don't understand why she won't talk to me. When we used to have small fights, she was always good at telling me what problems she's having. We would work it out and everything was good. I can't place what changed. If she isn't going to bring it up, then I have to.
Y/n's POV:
I open my locker and shove my assignment into the metal siding. My teacher is biased to the boys in the class and surprisingly all the guys got good grades. The red F on my paper stares back at me and I blow the hair out of my face in frustration.
"Y/n. We need to talk." My heart quickens and I turn back to Peter. He's cornered me and I can't escape this one.
"What about?" He looks at me desperately. His fingers fidget at his sides and he presses his lips together.
"Why are you ignoring me?" I bite the inside of my cheek and swallow hard.
"I can't talk about this right now Peter. I have to go to class." I adjust my backpack and begin to walk to my next class.
"Please Y/n wait." He says it with more force than usual. He grabs my wrist and I'm fully aware of his warm touch that I've longed for. Still, I pull away.
Peters POV:
"I'm sorry" she whispers. She pulls away from my grasp and walks toward her class. I follow her.
"Please Y/n I need to know the truth. Why did you give the Death Star back to Ned?" She closes her eyes and avoids my gaze. I hear a cough and then I realize that I walked into her class. My face flares red but I have to know.
"Just tell me if I did something wrong because if I did then I'm sorry." Her reaction is filled with so much pain I think I should leave her alone.
"Last warning Mr. Parker. Get to class." Mrs. Caldwell says angrily.
Well, I didn't obey Mrs. Caldwell.
