Tony stared at the photo of the man that had just appeared on his phone screen and felt a little worried. The man with the thick mustache and round face looked quite familiar to him. He looked at the man carefully and felt like there was a marked resemblance between the man and one of his regular customers.
"Tony, the man in the photo is Alfred Bayo." Tony sighed. He had received the information Alex sent him and had started reading it. He stared at the image of the man again and said,
"A politician with large shares in an oil company? I thought he was out to change people's lives."
"Tony, in the game of politics, words and money rule. Bayo is out to protest against the government shutting down an oil company in which he is a majority stakeholder."
"Is he fighting the government, now?" Alex ignored the question but went on to to say,
"My employers are not happy that he is making this protest and want to silence him right after he makes the speech at the Sheraton hotel.""What are they afraid of?" Tony asked.
"That is not our problem. Be at the Sheraton at exactly eleven am. A room has already been booked." Alex cut the call immediately. However, the hit on Alfred was unsuccessful and Tony couldn't tell why it failed. After he left Jamaica and went up to his hotel room, he was deep in thought trying to figure how Alfred had escaped. His phone was ringing but he refused to pick up the call.
He had missed his target because he never had the chance to shoot. Looking out of the window of his hotel room, he never saw Alfred coming out. He only saw a car speeding off in the far distance and was certain Alfred was in that car. The phone kept ringing and bothered by it, he picked up the call.
"Hello?" There was a long silence before the caller responded.
"What went wrong, Tony?" He closed his eyes when he heard Alex's voice."What happened wasn't anticipated, sir." he felt a sense of guilt at not completing the assignment.
" You missed your target, It means someone organized an extraction."
"I'm not aware of that. And besides, I should have been informed if you knew about it." There was another minute of silence before Alex spoke up again."My employers are not happy with the outcome."
"So what happens now?" Tony demanded.
"We have to wait. In the meantime, you have another assignment. I'll send you details right away."
Alex cut the call and in a few seconds an image appeared on Tony's phone. Alex immediately called him. The image was that of a man wearing round circle eyeglasses and sporting a black bowler hat. Tony took his earphone and plugged it into the phone so he could talk to Alex while he looked at the image of the man.
"Shedrach Evans, owner and CEO of Shedrach Malls, Port Harcourt. A chain of supermarkets in the Rivers State Capital."
"Why is he a target? I mean, he's only feeding the Rivers State capital." Tony concluded.
"Not so anymore. He wants to expand and open supermarkets all over the country."
"He is very ambitious, I guess."
"We have information he's trying to acquire the number one supermarket chain Marla's Inn."
"He's slowly moving into enemy territory. Marla is owned by billionaire Felix Badmos, am I right?" Tony asked
"Yes, with headquarters in Lagos."
"Hmm just not the type I would compete with."
"Well Shedrach wants to claim it." Tony kept staring at the image of the man. He didn't see any reason why the man had to go down. He was sure there was something more to the story than what Alex was telling him.
