In the early hours of the morning, the newly elected Governor of Lagos state, 45 year old Miriam Okafor, had woken up and sat on the bed. She focused her attention on the television and precisely on the latest news that was being televised.

The news wasn't the kind she wanted to hear on her first day in office. But it seemed that this first day had started on a wrong foot and it bothered her. Beside her in bed was the man that she had been married to for over fifteen years, Mr. Kayode, sleeping peacefully.

Miriam was a typically stubborn woman who refused to bear her husband's surname. And she was proud of it because it proved to be beneficial to her winning the governorship election when she contested. Her political campaign came with an astounding promise-to wipe out corruption and enhance security.

Lagos will become the Lagos that was once the capital of this great nation. It will be the capital of finance; the capital of entertainment and definitely, it is going to be the capital of safety.
If elected, my top priorities will be the elimination of corruption and the enhancement of security. I will handle corruption in a way that it has never been handled before. I will also work towards the progress and the security of Lagos State.

Now just one day into office, the news of the killing of Mr. Sambo sounded to her like a bad omen. She tapped her husband on the shoulder.

"Kayode, Kayode, are you still asleep? Wake up o, it is day time." Her husband looked at the clock by his bedside and then turned to face her.

"It is still too early now. And besides your first appointment is by eleven."
"And what does that mean? Did I win the governorship election just to be sleeping from morning till night?"

"Ah ah, Miriam this is only your first day in office and you want to change everything?"
"Yes, because twenty four hours into office, my administration has already been corrupted."

She took the TV remote from her bedside and increased the volume of the television. The news of the killing of Mr. Sambo was already making headlines. A video clip showed his colleagues being interviewed. They lavished so much praises on him.

He was a humble and respectful man.
He always dedicated his time to helping those around him.

He did not have much, but the little he had he would share it with his fellow brothers.

Everyone praised Mr. Sambo for being an upright and law abiding citizen. But the reporter who attended the funeral raised the question of how respectful he was.

"Mr. Sambo has been highly praised as a humble and upright person. However the question the authorities are now asking is,

'How did he end up in a villa in Lekki tied to a chair and with a bullet through his head? Also law enforcement found a safe with a lot of money in it and about 20 Rolex watches.'

'How did a law abiding citizen end up with such amount of money and Rolex watches? With the ongoing investigations these questions will soon dig up some exciting and perhaps shocking truths and shed light on the true nature of this humble citizen.'

The governor switched off the TV and sighed.

"Such an innocent man dying like that? This is senseless killing." Miriam looked at her husband who had got out of bed and was about to go into the bathroom.

"Lagos has always been a hot spot for criminals. Nobody is quite safe. " He replied.

"And what do you mean by that?"
"He was tied to a chair and shot."
"So?" She asked
"So he must have been picked up somewhere, and taken there. Probably against his will."
"But it doesn't answer the question why nobody is safe."
"Miriam you and I or anybody else can be picked up like that and taken to some unknown location and killed." The governor nodded.
