Duke had too much information on Jamaica and didn't know who, among his brother-in-law, Gbenga and Alex he should believe. He still had a hard time accepting the fact that Jamaica went about confirming information from Abisola.
On top of that, he hardly remembered seeing Jamaica with someone she called a close friend. He had always told her that most of the people that came around her were enemies, people who had bad intentions towards her. And so when Alex told him that Abisola was her best friend, he didn't believe him.
Abisola, the name didn't sound familiar to him. Why don't I remember you? He thought. Sitting at the pub where he and Alex usually met, he thought about everything he was told. He shook his head in disbelief because he couldn't believe that Jamaica could go to such extent as to betray him.
It however made him feel concerned about future operations. He couldn't trust her anymore and to him, this meant that she had to be replaced. As he sipped his wine, he wondered how long she had been, as his brother-in-law had said, stealing information from under his nose.
At this point and after hearing from Alex, he didn't need to wait for his brother-in-law to get back to him. He decided to call him, and tell him that he already had the information he needed. He brought out his phone and dialed his number.
"Hello Duke to what do I owe this call?" Duke sighed, before he spoke.
"I was hoping to get some feedback from you."
"Yes, but I told you I'd get back soon."
"Mr. Daniels, soon is not enough."
"Are you in a hurry?"
"Definitely not."
"So why are you worried about feedback?" Duke held his breath as he tried to fight back the urge to tell his brother-in-law what he had discovered. He had enough evidence already, but wanted to add that of his brother-in-law, to get a full picture of the situation. The Port-Harcourt job was fast approaching and he wanted to know if he could replace Jamaica before that time."I was hoping that with your position and power, you could move rapidly. But unfortunately as with all things in this country, we still have a problem getting quick results."
"Duke, are you accusing me of not doing my job well?"
"Then can't you move faster. At least it will save me the headache of having to find out things by myself." Mr. Daniels took a deep breath to hold himself from reacting to Duke's provocation.
"Duke let me remind you that I gave you your present job assignment, when you had your contracting license suspended."
"Oh, so it was out of pity, abi? Because being married to your sister I still have to maintain her?"
"Show me some respect if you don't want me to start looking into why your license was suspended."
"Go ahead!" Duke shouted, "do you think you will find anything?"
"If I look deeper, surely I will find something, Duke. And if I find something..."
"Are you threatening me?" Mr. Daniels sighed."Look Duke if you do not calm down, I may dig deeper and then arraign you before a commission." Duke saw this as blackmail and kept quiet. He knew with the power his brother-in-law wielded, he could act on his words and bring him in front of a commission of enquiry.
"Any reason why you would want to go to such extent?"
"Because you cannot be trusted to handle any operation, if you allow information to slip away so easily."Duke laughed as he listened but knew that this wasn't the time to argue with his brother-in-law. And he knew Mr. Daniels wasn't joking about setting up a commission. He wanted to get to the root of the story about Jamaica; to verify what Alex had told him about her. And he needed as much information as possible, even from his brother-in-law.
