It was past 1 am in the morning and Duke was unable to sleep. He had kept his eyes open not because he wanted to, but because apart from the fact that he couldn't sleep, his mind was focused on events of the past days.
First his brother in-law had told him Jamaica could be extracting information from under his nose. And then Gbenga had told him about the governor looking for her. This made him wonder what was coming next. Then again, he was concerned about the way Gbenga was beaten and still had a hard time believing that the governor could do this to him.
He shrugged as he thought about the steps the governor would take just to find Jamaica. As he lay still in bed he still wanted to know why the governor was so interested in looking for Jamaica. Why are you looking for her? He thought to himself. You don't even know that she exists. He got up and picked up his phone and left the bedroom closing the door behind him. He went directly to the kitchen and got himself a glass of water.
Once he left the kitchen he went straight to the sitting room and sat down. His conversation with Jamaica's mother ended abruptly when Alex came back after talking to Mike. But his conversation with Jamaica's mother had to continue and he felt now was the time to get some information from her. He dialed her number, cleared his throat and waited.
"Duke, don't you think it's late to be calling me at this hour?"
"I don't think it's too late to talk."
"At this time of the night? Are you serious?"
"Well sit up because you might not be able to sleep well, over what I am about to tell you." Abigail sat up and listened."It better be important." She said frowning.
"Why would first lady be looking for your daughter?" He drank the water before him and waited. Abigail thought for a minute before she replied."No, it's impossible. That woman doesn't even know she exists."
"Well I think you live far back in the past to know what is going on in the present."
"Oh, so you believe you know more than me, is that what you are saying?" Abigail laughed.
"Then tell me why Miriam would go to the extent of sending people to beat up one of my collaborators..."
"All because she is looking for my daughter?" She interrupted.
"Correct." Abigail sighed, as she knew why perhaps the governor was looking for her daughter. She, like Duke, was still bothered about how Miriam was entrusted with more of their fathers properties. She strongly believed that there was some kind of foul play on Miriam's part. And that their late father was forced to sign the Will granting Miriam almost seventy percent of their late father's wealth. She had wanted to tell Duke about her thoughts but feared that being a man, he would try the use of force against their sister.
She decided to visit their father's lawyer to get some information. When she got there, she was about to knock on the door when she heard the lawyer and Miriam arguing. She put her ears to the door and listened carefully. What she heard shocked her. The money that in the Will was part of Miriam's own share of money had to be split giving the first grandchild of their late father a twenty-five percent share.
Abigail realized that Jamaica had a substantial financial inheritance but knew that Miriam wouldn't accept to give up that amount without a fight. She realized that perhaps this was the purpose why the governor was looking for Jamaica.
"Duke, I think I have some idea what this is all about." Duke sat up and frowned. He was angry with Abigail for withholding information from him all these years.
"Abigail, do you realize how irresponsible you are?!" He shouted.
"Ah, abeg Duke don't shout at me, like that."
"Why won't I shout? If something happens to her, will you not blame me? But here you are confessing to knowing the reason why the governor might be looking for your daughter."
