Bella, Blaise, Sky, Thomas, and Norville work on their essays in silence, until the teacher informs the class that the bell is about to ring. Then, they clean up their supplies.

The bell rings and they all look at their schedules as the other students swarm out of the room. "I have defensive magic now." Sky says.

"So do I," Bella says.

"I have Offensive magic," all of the boys say at the same time, as they all walk out of transfigurations.

The maps take the girls in one direction and the boys in the other, right outside the door. Norville gives Sky a peck on the cheek as Blaise does the same. "See, you boys later." Bella and Sky say before walking away.

"How different is this from your last school?" Sky asks.

"Rather different, especially since I choose to floo and apparate to school instead of staying in the dorms. At my last school, there was no choice. You had to stay in the dorms as it was a boarding school. Astrology was held at midnight, but that doesn't seem like an option here."

"Well, they have a state of the art Magical Observatory that showcases the night sky at all times of the day. I should know, Astrology class is held in there."

"Cool, now I'm super excited for Astrology next semester." Bella says as they reach the Defensive Magic classroom and walk inside. One look at the teacher and Bella is resisting the urge to yell the one thing that has popped into her head.

She and Sky take a seat near the middle of room. "You know him?"

"Yeah, he taught Defense Against the Dark Arts my third year at Hogwarts."

"Oh, so is he a good teacher?"

"The best one we ever had."

"So why did Hogwarts let him go?"

"Because he is a werewolf. Great Britain's Ministry of Magic has a law forbidding werewolves from having jobs in close proximity to the general public."

"So, school teacher was out."

"Right." The late bell rings and they fall silent, their eyes watching the man at the front of the classroom.

"Good afternoon, class. Welcome to Defensive Magic. My name is Remus Lupin. I will now take attendance and then we will go over the expectations for this class." He begins calling out names and as each student lets him know that they are there he looks over at each one. His eyes go wide when he looks at Bella but then he shakes his head and calls the next name. "All right, class. Really this class is about learning different spells to defend yourself with. This year you will be learning shields, inferious, defending against dementors, and resisting the imperious curse, as well as learning to cast several spells nonverbally. Each night I will assign you a spell to read up on and ask random people questions about it the next day in class. Any questions so far?"

Everyone shakes their head. "Okay. You will also be trying to cast that spell nonverbally in class is if it one covered in a previous year. For today, I want to see everybody's best defensive spell, other than Experliramus. You will go in alphabetical order. First we will clear the center of the room for this." Everyone gets up from their desk and Mr. Lupin levitates them to the edge of the room. Then he calls the first student. Eventually he calls Bella.

Bella takes a deep breath and steps forward. "Expecto Patronum." A large spider popped out of her wand. Everyone backed up a little, including Bella, before she waves her wand to dismiss the patronus. Mr. Lupin seemed a little disappointed.

Eventually it got to Sky's turn. She steps forward and holds up her wand "Expecto Patronum." She says and a white firey looking bird pops from her wand. Everyone takes a large step back. She dismisses the charm, with a large smile on her face, and rejoins Bella at the edge of the room. "What do you think of my patronus? Your's is pretty cool."

"Your's is amazing, I didn't even realize you could have a magical creature as a patronus."

"Nor did my papa until I performed my first patronus. Actually we think it may have something to do with my phoenix friend, Pheonia."

"Attention class, tonight I would like you to review the Knockback jinx. That is all for today, so you may leave early."

"Sky, can you wait for me outside. I... I want to talk to him for a little bit."

"Sure, I'll be right outside."

"Thanks." Sky leaves after the other students and Bella walks up the Mr. Lupin. "Mr. Lupin."

"Miss. Le Faye. Is there a problem?"

"No, sir. Umm, hi, Uncle Moony."

His eyes go wide. "Hyacinth?" She nods.

"I got my name changed."

"Good, that just makes it harder for Dumbledor to find you. He's been going crazy looking for you since the day you sent out that message. Most of Wizarding Britain him, hates what he did to you. So why Ilvermorny?"

"Best Wizarding school in America, and I'm in America because of Mr. Hotchner. He was named as a third potential guardian after Sirius and the Longbottoms. There was even a clause in their wills that stated if possible you would be my guardian. Coming to America would have solved that problem." The bell rings. "I've got to go. I told Snape I would talk to him more after school."
