Ilvermorny: Third Block

Bella sighs and looks down at her schedule. Her next class is transfigurations. She starts following the path on the map, she'll figure out which of her new friends are in this class with her when she gets there. "I just hope the teacher is better than McGonagall, she never really explained much of anything when it comes to making a transfigurations work. I hope I'm not behind in this class because of her 'teaching'." She mumbles under her breath as she reaches the classroom.

"Looks like we have this class together," Blaise says holding the door open for her.

"Yeah," Bella says as she enters the classroom.

"Oh, you must be the transfer students, no one else gets here this earlier after the lunch period. I'm Miss. Toben. This so I'm aware of where you stand. I want each of you to tell me the most important thing to remember for a proper transfiguration."

"Intent," Blaise

"Imagery," Norville says.

"Both of the above," Sky says with a smile.

"I'm with Sky," Thomas says.

"Intent," Bella says.

"Sky and Thomas have the best answers. When performing a transfiguration you have to be clear on your intent, and what you want it to look like." Miss. Toben clarifies. "Go ahead and pick your seats, the rest of the class should get here soon."

Sky, Norville, and Thomas take seats at the back of the classroom, with Bella and Blaise in two of the seats at the desk in front of them. They each pull out the necessary supplies for the class. Their wands, notebooks, pens, and textbooks are all neatly arranged on the desk in front of them. "I wonder if this is going to be like my other classes today," Blaise wonders out loud.

"I hope it's like my first two classes," Bella says. "I really enjoyed a first day of school where I didn't have to have read at least the first five chapters of the textbook."

"Man, that seems harsh," Thomas chimes in.

"It is, especially when one teacher likes to pick on you, but I understand why he did it." Bella says.

They quiet down as the late bell rings and the teacher walks to the center of the room. "Welcome everyone to Sixth Year Transfigurations." She waves her wand and a piece of paper falls onto the desk in front of each student. "We will begin by going over my class syllabus. Number one on the list is of course my name. I am Lana Stealworth. You will all call me Miss. Stealworth. I have listed for you, my email address if you have any questions. I check it four times a day. After I eat breakfast and before classes start, during the lunch period, directly after last class ends, and an hour before I go to bed. Based on when you send your email is when I will reply. Any questions regarding my e-mail." No one says or does anything. "Okay, then moving on. For those of you who do not have an email, or believe it would better to discuss it in person. I have listed times to come see me. One hour before school starts is when I first open my door, during the lunch hour, and two hours after school. I will inform you during class if my door will not be open after school. As long as you respect my time I will respect yours."

A girl in the front row raises her hand. Miss. Stealworth nods her head toward her. "Miss. Stealworth, what if we can not make it to you during one of those time frames and believe the matter to be to difficult to explain through an email."

"Then email that you would like to meet to discuss a matter with me, and are unable to make it during one of the times I already have set aside to meet with students and we will see about setting aside a time that works for both of us. Though I can't imagine what could cause you not to have time to meet with me during lunch."

"I was thinking about later in the year if I need to have study sessions during lunch. I have no time before or after school because I have to help the younger children at the orphanage get ready in the mornings and after school I have a group of them I'm supposed to look after and tutor since the orphanage is short on volunteers and funds."

"Yes, I can see where that could be a problem."

Another girl raises her hand. Miss. Stealworth calls on her. "Also, some of the school clubs meet during the lunch hour, because it works better for some of their members who may be on some of the sports teams and/or other clubs."

"Okay, thank you for that wonderful information." Miss. Stealworth says, smiling at the class. "Onto the next part of the syllabus, the grading scale. Fifty percent of your grade is based on participation, this means answering questions, discussing topics with your classmates, and asking questions. Twenty-five percent on homework, which will typically consist of a three paragraph essay on the spell we will be covering in class the day after the homework is assigned. The essay will need to include the history of the spell, the concept of the spell and the ways to reverse the spell in case something goes wrong. The last twenty-five percent of your grade is based on spellwork, how well you can do the spells and how hard you are trying. I don't care how good it looks, I just want to see if you can even do the transfigurations."

"I believe it would be wise to remind everyone that this course covers human transfigurations and though I am sure a few of you would love to begin by transforming yourselves into all kinds of outrageous things, I believe it is best to remind you that if you mess up in the slightest way, it could have dire consequences and you are not allowed to perform these spells on your fellow students. And with that does anyone have any questions?"

A few students raise their hands. Miss. Stalworth calls on a boy with black hair in the second row. "Will we be learning the animagus transformation this year or will we have to wait until seventh year?"

"That particular transformation should have been covered in your third year transfigurations class. It will not be covered this year or next year by me. If you missed your lessons on it, there is a book about it located in the library, and those of you who are or become anamagi, please remember that when you graduate from Ilvermorny or any magical school should you transfer at some point between now and graduation you will need to register with the MACUSA or the equivalent of the country you are in your Anamagi form, if you are seventeen years of age or older. Any other questions?" No one raises their hand. "Very well, you may begin reading about the first spell we will be covering in class and writing your essay on it."
