Chapter 51: Wedding Bells

It was night and Arjun reached home just then, lost in thoughts. Pooja had already updated him about her conversation with Aditya and how she managed to go the crooked path to get Aditya convinced, even though that was not what she wished for.

He walked inside and saw Zoya walking towards the dining table, which was filled with various dishes, with a sweets tray in her hand.

"Ohh, you are here finally?" Zoya asked, as she placed them in the table, "How long have we been waiting for you, Arjun?"

Arjun looked at all the dishes in the table and asked, "Zoya, what's all this?"

"Well..." Zoya pulled out a chair and sat down, as she told, "This dinner is on account of a few happy occasions that are on the way. For instance, my wedding with your brother by the end of this month", Zoya said with a smile, as she added, "And then, my brother-in-law is going to Australia to do his masters and is also going to have a very successful career. So, shouldn't we celebrate this?"

Arjun had a light smile hearing it, while Zoya stood up and walked towards Arjun. She said in a calm tone, "I am sorry that we responded to your happy news with so much of criticisms, questions and tension, Arjun. Just that, we had no idea about anything, and suddenly when we heard all these, we reacted a bit oddly. So sorry about that, Arjun. In fact, you know, how happy I feel that amidst all your plans, you made our wedding a priority and wanted to see it happen before you leave? I mean, how much luckier can I get, that I am getting someone like you as my brother-in-law?"

Zoya said with a wide smile, while her sweet words which should have soothed down his ears to his heart like honey, stung his heart like a bee. That innocent girl right in front of him was thinking that he wanted to see their wedding soon, as he wanted to leave, but little did she know that he was in fact leaving, just for their wedding to happen soon. It hurt him to cheat such an innocent woman, but it hurt him more, imagining the aftermath of the revelation of Yash's death.

"Zoya, there's nothing more that I want to see, than your wedding with Bhai. You have no idea how much I am looking forward to that day." Arjun said with a smile, as he walked towards her, "Zoya, as you are all set to enter our family, and my Bhai's life, can I ask you for something?"

Zoya smiled, "My only brother-in-law, who is also my best friend, wants something from me, and would I not give? Go on, what do you want?"

Arjun looked at her and extended his hand to her, "There's nothing that you don't know about the amount of love my brother has for you, Zoya. You have literally defined my brother's existence, and given a meaning to his lonely life till date. He has lost a lot of people in his life, and a lot more things dearest to him. All I want from you, is a promise, that come what may, a small misunderstanding or...a huge trouble, you should never ever leave my Bhai at any cost. Do I have your word?"

Zoya looked at his hand extended towards her, while she looked at Arjun with a puzzled look, "Why are you suddenly talking about such things, Arjun? What so huge can happen after all, between me and Aditya, that I will even think about leaving him? Why do you feel so? You don't trust the amount of love I have for him?"

Arjun closed his eyes, as he stressed his words, "No Zoya, it's not about trust. Just for my sake, please...can you give me this word? For my contentment, please!"

Zoya's mind was filled in thoughts about Arjun's strange promise, and yet she took her hand forward to promise, "Come what may, I..."

"Arjun, where were you the whole day, huh?"

Zoya retreated her hand, as she looked at Aditya, at the door, with a wide smile, and walked towards him. Arjun looked at his hand, extended in mid-air and slowly closed his fist, cursing at the irony that Aditya himself stopped Zoya from that promise; that promise which would have actually held a lot of importance for him, in the worst case scenario.
