The soft light of the morning sun filtered into the room as Aditya stirred in his hospital bed. Zoya had fallen asleep beside him, her head resting on the edge of the bed, still holding his hand. Her fingers were intertwined with his, as though afraid to let go again.
Aditya blinked his eyes open, the blurriness clearing as his gaze focused on her—disheveled, exhausted, but still so beautiful in his eyes. His heart swelled with love and guilt for what he had put her through. He tried to shift his hand gently, not wanting to wake her, but even that small movement caused a soft groan to escape his lips. He didn't even know if this was reality or not. Some hours back, he thought that he had lost her forever, and now she was sitting next to him.
With Aditya slightly shifting his hand, Zoya instantly stirred, her eyes snapping open. For a moment, she looked lost, and then her eyes widened in recognition as she realized he was awake.
"Aditya..." she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
Aditya managed a weak smile, "Sorry...I woke you up."
"It's okay Aditya..." Zoya said, as tears filled her eyes once again, but this time, they were tears of relief. She lifted his hand and kissed it, holding it close to her cheek.
"You scared me...you scared me so much, Aditya," Zoya whispered, her voice cracking. "I thought...I thought I lost you."
Aditya tried to lift his other hand to touch her face, but winced in pain. Zoya immediately stood up and gently cupped his face, bringing his hand down. "Don't move too much...you're still recovering."
"How could I leave you, Zoya?" Aditya said softly, his voice raspy but full of emotion. "I promised you...remember?"
Zoya nodded, biting her lip to hold back her sobs. She leaned down and kissed his forehead tenderly. "I will never leave your side again...I promise," she whispered against his skin. "No matter what happens...we'll get through everything...together."
Aditya smiled weakly. "Good...even I need you the most now, Zoya."
Zoya sat beside him on the bed, gently brushing his hair back, "And I need you more than that."
Aditya smiled, as he held her hand and gave a deep kiss, while Zoya rested her face on his head, while caressing his hair, with a relieved smile.
Just then, Arjun, Naani, and Pooja entered the room, with Harsh following them. Anjana too came in with a reluctant look.
Arjun finally had relief, as he saw Aditya awake with a slight smile on his face. He hurried to his side, bending down beside the bed and taking Aditya's hand.
"Bhai!! Bhai...Thank God you're awake, bhai!" Arjun said, his voice shaky with emotion. "You scared me a lot! You are never going to scare me like this anymore. I swear...I will get angry and...I will shout at you...I was so scared, Bhai!! I just..."
Arjun got emotional, as he tried stopping his tears, while Aditya smiled faintly. "I am fine, Ajju. And, please...don't go back to your drama queen mode. I can't bear that too above this pain." He said, his voice weak but laced with his usual teasing tone.
Zoya and Pooja chuckled hearing that, while Arjun too had a smile hearing that. Aditya patted Arjun's cheek slightly, while Harsh and Anjana were looking at their lovely bond. Anjana realized at that moment, that no matter how much she tried, she was never able to separate them both, but rather her own son developed such a deep affection with his half-brother, more than he ever showed her. That alone made her realize that, trying to prove her as an affectionate mother, she always proved herself to be a bad human. Something in her had shifted after reading the letter from his late mother. Aditya was the one who should have rightfully hated her and Arjun, but he showered him love more than a real brother would. He proved that he was Amrita's son. And she kept showing hatred, just to make herself feel better, about the betrayal she showed to Amrita.
