The flight was in mid-air, and Aditya and Zoya hadn't even looked at each other since the time the flight had taken off. Zoya's eyes were fixed in the flight magazine, while her mind was completely attached with Aditya, and the weirdness surrounding them both.
She cursed that rainy night, which ruined everything for her...for them. She hated being this way with Aditya. She was feeling a strange sense of discomfort and uneasiness, not talking to Aditya and acting like a stranger with him. It's now a proven fact in her life, that Aditya has seriously become a habit in her life; a part of her routine, and this distance with him is so disturbing. She was actually missing the man in her life; who was actually sitting right next to her.
She tapped the magazine with her fingers, while she was in thoughts:
Should I talk to him? Maybe just casually speak something?
After a moment, she shook her head in denial:
No...why should I? He too could have asked me something...asked about my health now...my leg...something. But, he didn't. I didn't tell him that I don't want to talk to him, right? So, if he isn't talking to me...then even I am not going to speak anything. If he too misses talking to me, like I do, let him make his move...till that, I won't talk anything...
Just then, she felt something on her shoulder, and she jerked a bit.
Aditya?
She wondered, if Aditya actually heard through her mind, and was actually making his first move. Aditya's actions and words have been eerily in sync with her since some days.
She cleared her throat, and asked, "Yeah...tell me..."
She turned slightly and looked to her left, and was surprised to find a sleeping Aditya, having dozed off with his head resting on Zoya's shoulder.
Zoya slightly moved her shoulder, as her left shoulder was still hurting due to the injury she had due to the fall from the window, during that night. Aditya's head was exactly resting there, and she took her hand to his head to move his head off her shoulder.
As she took her hand near his head, she looked at him, sleeping peacefully. Looking at that for a moment, she retreated, by taking her hand behind. Her shoulder was indeed hurting, but that pain didn't deserve that much attention, that she had to wake up Aditya from his deep sleep.
She leaned her head back on her seat, without moving her shoulder. She looked at him, as her mind recalled his words:
"If I had the slightest inkling that such a danger is on your way...trust me, I would have taken it up myself rather than throwing you under the bus."
"I somehow felt scared to reveal about my past...fearing that...maybe...what if you...keep your distance from me...considering, our friendship had just begun to bloom. I was scared of losing you, Zoya."
"Boarding the bus that night...has to be one of the best things I did in my life."
She had a smile on her face recalling all those, and she was emotional too, while she tilted her head upwards with closed eyes.
I have heard that there are times when you hurt and distance someone from yourself, you feel more pain than them doing so. I never realized the depth of this saying, till I brought this distance between us, Aditya.
Staying away from you seems like a crime that I am guilty for...
