Zoya tried opening her eyes, while she faintly heard beeps, next to her. As, she lifted her hands to her forehead, she faced difficulty doing so. She then opened her eyes and noticed that her arms were bandaged.
She looked around and noticed that she was in a hospital room. She tried to sit straight in the bed, while a nurse opened the door and saw Zoya struggling.
"Ma'am...please don't strain yourself. Please lie down." The nurse said, as she tried to lay down Zoya back in the bed.
"Who brought me here?" Zoya asked in a feeble voice.
"Someone called..." The nurse thought for a while and said after a few seconds, "Yeah! Aditya...Aditya Hooda."
Hearing Aditya's name, Zoya immediately had a sense of unrest in her face, as her mind went back to the last strong visual registered in her mind, before she lost her consciousness; the visual of Aditya standing with a pistol, following a gunfire. That rage in Aditya's eyes, his different personality; that has to be one of the most impactful sights and incidents that she has ever encountered with.
The nurse left, after taking Zoya's case sheet, while Zoya leaned back on the bed, as she recalled the goons talking about some ACP Aditya, and how she accused them of mistaking someone else with Aditya, while she seems to be the one who was mistaken all the while. Her mind randomly travelled through all the instances where she almost got close to the obvious facts, but failed to understand. She remembered Pooja's words in her office once:
"You have no idea, who my contacts are. My best friend is an Assistant Commissioner! I will give your number to him, and ask him to finish you in an encounter!! Mind it!!"
"Well..Who is that Assistant Commissioner best friend, Pooja?"
"Arre, it's our Adi...well...Aditya's dad's friend's son...He is an ACP in Delhi...I meant him."
She covered her mouth with her hands, with an unbelievable look, as she recalled the day when she was dressing Aditya's wounds, while they were working in Pooja's project:
"You speak as if you are used to such wounds everyday...please give your hand."
"Exactly...I have got wounds worse than these...in fact when I was..."
And to top of that, when Aditya hid from his uncle when she was with him, citing the lamest excuse ever possible:
"Uncle? But why are you hiding? You can just go and tell a 'hi' to him, yeah?"
"No!! Actually...uncle doesn't like people telling 'hi'..."
"I was so stupid!" Zoya exclaimed with an unbelievable look, "There were obvious clues around me, and I got fooled so easily by each one of them. How dumb can I be!!"
Just then, the door opened and Zoya looked at the door, and saw Pooja and Arjun coming inside.
"Zoya, how are you feeling now?" Pooja asked, "Your arms are still paining? How is your forehead?"
Zoya just looked down, without replying, while Arjun looked at her moody self and asked, "Is something bothering you, Zoya?"
"Yeah..." Zoya said, still looking down, "Your lies."
Pooja and Arjun looked at each other, and then looked at Zoya, while Pooja said, "I don't get it, Zoya..."
"Even I don't get it, Pooja!" Zoya looked up at her, with an upset face, "What was the need to lie to me all this while, about Aditya's profession? Why?"
"Zoya...well..." Pooja tried to explain, "It's not like what you think...not that we wanted to lie..."
"Then? What was it like? You know...I feel like a bloody fool! I thought I almost knew everything about you people...I thought you all too considered me your best friend. In fact, I believed whatever you guys said, right?"
