Evan's POV—
"I still can't believe we're going to Florida," Ashley says as she looks out the window next to her, looking out into the sky from thousands of feet up in the air from the airplane. I can only look over towards her, smiling from ear to ear as I hear the very noticeable excitement in her voice.
I'm also very excited for this trip.
My dad owns a beach house on a beach in Florida and every year my family likes to go and stay there for the month of July.
But it'll be just me and Ashley for this trip. Which is perfect because then we can actually spend some much needed time together.
Alone.
Just the two of us.
No parents.
No siblings.
Just us.
And the idea of being alone with her, of showing her the different sites in Florida...
I am very excited about it.
"Well, believe it, love. Because we should be landing within the next thirty minutes or so," I tell her as I slip my hand into hers. The touch causes her to turn her head around to look back at me, and her smile widens as she gives my hand a firm squeeze.
Our flight took off a little over two hours ago from the metro Detroit airport. Ashley had never been on an airplane until today. So when we first took off, she was a bit nervous about it. I held her hand for the entire take off, and then for a while afterwards.
"So are you going to tell me what we're going to do while we're there now?" she asks me.
She's asked me several times within the past several hours what we're going to do during our stay in Florida. And I've refused to tell her.
It's supposed to be a surprise, so of course I'm not going to tell her.
She'll have to wait and see.
"Nope. I'm still not gonna tell you," is all I tell her, making her pout at me in the most adorable way ever.
"Please? It's my birthday. You wouldn't want to say no to me on my birthday, would you?" she says.
"Wow...to use the whole "it's my birthday" card. That was a harsh move, Ash," I tell her as I laugh a little.
"So..." she trails off.
"No. I'm still not going to tell you," I tell her once more. She only huffs before she lets go of my hand and crosses her arm. She turns her head—her entire body—in the direction of the window.
"Fine. Be like that," is all she tells me as she continues to look out at the clouds and blue sky.
I can only playfully shake my head at her and let her have her little moment.
Eventually, we start descending towards the ground. The airplane drops a little, making it feel as though my stomach is being pushed up into my body. I'm assuming Ashley felt the same thing and wasn't prepared to feel it because when it happens again, Ashley immediately reaches for my hand again.
And holds on tight.
For the entire landing, Ashley's eyes were glued to the window. Watching as the plane titled a little, making the world go on an angle or two. Watching as we moved closer and closer to the ground and how everything gradually became bigger in size compared to the tiny specks we've been seeing for the entire plane ride.
