Ashley's POV—
"This would go by a lot faster if you just told me the answers, you know," Zachary tries to tell me as he leans back in his chair for the 10th time, crossing his arms as he does so. Giving me such a bored expression.
I swear.
Evan told me the exact same thing—or something very similar—during our initial days of trying to study together. It was annoying when she did, and it's equally as annoying now with Zachary doing it.
Actually it's even more annoying.
It honestly surprises me how similar the two of them are.
"That's not how you learn—"
"But it's math. Why do I need to know math?" he asks me as he tilts his head to the side.
I can only sigh in frustration at him.
When mom had asked me to help Zachary with his math homework this morning, I didn't think it was going to be such a trial since it's just a harder level of addition for his age. Though, I don't know what I really expected.
He's a prick.
An adorable, eight year old prick.
Lord knows what he's going to be like when he gets older.
"Come on, Zach. It's literally just three more addition problems and one more subtraction problem. Then you're done," I tell him, trying to urge him to just finish his simple math homework.
"What's in it for me?" he asks me as he raises his eyebrow.
I swear.
He is just like Evan.
What she used to be like.
She's down at the station right now, giving her statement to the police even though they have the recording as evidence to lock Nicole up for years.
For life.
She told me what happened last night after she managed to calm herself down. And even though she was right in front of me, physically fine except for a faint mark along her neck from where Nicole tried to suffocate her with a belt...
It scared me.
Nicole could have killed her had Caleb not walked up to them when he did.
She could have choked Evan.
Too many times has Evan experienced near-death experiences.
I didn't let Evan out of my sight for the duration of the night, except for when she went to shower and go to the bathroom. Though, I guess I could have joined her in the shower. Since she's already seen me completely naked before.
And vice versa.
We haven't done anything after that one time in the classroom. When she had a seizure directly afterwards in the hallway and collapsed.
For a while, we didn't do anything because Evan was under so many restrictions. Now, even though the remaining restrictions are going to be lifted soon, we still haven't done anything.
Which is kind of a bummer.
But also not.
We've waited this long.
Why not just a little longer?
That, and the open-door policy is still very well a thing for us.
