Ashley's POV—

Being back and forth from the hospital and home for the past couple of days has helped me to learn and memorize how to get to Evan's room in the ICU. It's also helped me figure out how to get to and from the cafeteria and waiting room from the entrance and from her room as well.

She's had multiple tests and scans done for the past couple of days, and they've been keeping a close eye on her like her doctor said they would. And based on the scans she had this early afternoon, they're bringing her out of her coma today.

Which is why I'm currently rushing down the hallway to get to her room.

Once she wakes up, they'll transfer her to another room on the neurology floor where she'll stay for another several days. During which they'll start any physical, occupational, and speech therapy if she needs them. It'll also give them more time to see how she'll be once she's awake.

Mainly to keep an eye out for any complications.

There hasn't been any so far—and we're all hoping it stays that way.

I find Caleb and Jaxon just outside of her room.

"How's she doing?" I ask as I approach them.

"Good. They are just taking her off of the drugs right now. The anesthesiologist said to not expect her to wake up right away and talk normally. It may take her a couple of days to be able to stay awake for more than a few minutes to an hour and to talk somewhat normally—if she can, that is," Caleb tells me. I can only nod my head at him before I turn to look through the glass window into Evan's room.

A few people are in with her, but a second later, one of them walks on out.

After briefly introducing himself as the anesthesiologist, he informs us that she should be up soon. But reminded us to not expect her to be awake for that long and so forth.

When he leaves, the three of us go into her room. Most of all the machinery that she was hooked up to are pushed aside, or are gone. All that's really attached to her now is an IV and a heart monitor machine.

Our siblings are home with Opal—Evan's, Jaxon's, Mathew's, and Roxy's old nanny.

I had Andre drop me off from school.

Mom should be by later once she gets off of work.

It takes a long hour, but she eventually grunts as her head jerks to the side a bit. When she does so, Caleb, Jaxon, and I are instantly closer to her, and watch as her eyes slowly flutter open.

And almost like they knew she was waking up, her doctor and nurse rush into the room.

"Nice of you to finally join us, Evan. I'm your doctor, Dr. Whitlock. Do you know where you are?" he asks her. Drozily, she shakes her head, her eyes already fighting to remain open.

"Are you able to tell me how you're feeling?"

"Tired...drowsy..." she just barely mumbles.

Within the next few minutes while she's still awake, they check her vitals and a few other things. I can only sign in relief seeing that she's finally awake—we're not entirely out of the woods yet, but it's a start.

She's asleep again after a couple more minutes.

And they eventually transfer her to the room where she'll be staying in.

On and off, she wakes up. Looks around a little, barely says anything, and then falls back asleep. And even though she's not really all that active, I still stay with her, not wanting to leave her side for more than a couple minutes if need be.
