CHAPTER 12

The Luzviminda Gardens...

The fragrance of the variety of plants and blossoms in the garden filled the air with a sweet flowery fragrance. Shula loved coming here, surrounded by nature and beauty. Her father, King Athens, was always busy with his new role and his newly joined Other Half, the Sprite Queen Rosa. Pressing matters took so much time that he hardly had any left for his little Flame. But Shula was happy for him and felt that she would be fine on her own.

Her days and evenings were mostly spent caring for the garden. Roger Evans, a Born Hunter and newly turned Vampire, was only able to come here at night because the sunlight was too intense for his enhanced vision and he was still adjusting. GinGin, an All Around Sprite who had the unusual gift of being able to control the elemental units naturally, and one of her Other Halves, JJ, a nymph who was also a cat shifter, were the ones who usually tended to the garden. Both were mated to Abram, a crow shifter, and they had two children which kept the throuple busy.

Shula didn't mind helping out and enjoyed being useful. She hated thinking about her own life. Having an Other Half made her sad since he was such a jerk. Sure he might have carried a curse but something deep down told her that he didn't even try to fight for her. Then there was her mother, Evanora, an enchantress. She was able to fool the Dark Fairy King, Athens Green, into believing that she was his Other Half when real she was his brother's, Absalom, a Necromancer and Shula's biological father.

One very good thing about coming here was the fact she was able to meet a healer, Galen. Using the rare Golden Jade Vine only grown on sacred land, he was able to heal the damage so she could once again speak. Elated, she couldn't stop humming or singing after so many years of silence.

The sound of a whistle caught her attention. She smiled brightly when she saw Luke, a rogue cat shifter, come towards her.

"You looked like you were deep in thought." He said.

Luke had been sent by Dameon to assist in keeping an eye on the garden since it was a sacred site. Supernatural beings associated with packs or covens were not allowed to guard a sacred site because the Alpha or Head could try to claim it as "territory." Dameon, being king of rogues, was not part of a power struggle or pack so the Protector, Tracy Mason, asked that he send some rogues to help guard the site. Dameon sent some of his most trustworthy men under the leadership of Luke, one of his right hand men or Beta.

"Not really." Shula replied. "How are you doing today?" she asked.

"Can't really complain. Well I guess I can but then I'd be the only one who'd listen and the Creator knows that I don't want to hear about it." he joked.

Shula chuckled. "You are so corny."

"It's because I got big ears."

"Please stop!" she giggled.

"Why? I like making you laugh."

Shula blushed under his warm regard. The two had become friends and if it weren't for the fact that she had an Other Half and his jokes were so awful. She knew that they would have done what any normal human would have done, dated and fallen in love. Sometimes things just weren't fair.
