CHAPTER 50
Cub Creek Territory...
Solomon Grey pulled up to pack house. Since the betrayal and take over, the Werewolf Council was still in disarray. The few remaining Council had to scope out new candidates to fill the voids. Piecing together all the mountains of paperwork that had built up was insane. Solomon was asked to be the Head of the Council. He was reluctant but eventually agreed but only if he could take time off twice a month and have a second Head of Council to assist during the time he was gone. He was grateful that his mate supported and helped him every step of the way.
His mate Maria had been amazing. She was an excellent, wife, and vital in her position as the Head Council's mate. She worked tirelessly to help them with the necessary paperwork and even called Alpha's back to settle disputes or answer questions. Everyone saw her as a pillar of strength and common sense. Only Solomon saw the terror in her eyes and the tears that she cried when she woke from her nightmares. She refused to let what those men did to her destroy who she was. Despite her best efforts, Solomon knew that there was a damaged piece. It hurt him as her mate not to be able to fix the problem. Maria would simply cuss him out if he tried to coddle her. She focused on her family and helping him reorganize the Council.
The Alpha of Bare Fang Pack had been helpful in providing extra secretaries and more guards from his pack to assist. The Council had a long history with the nearby pack and gratefully accepted his assistance. The Alpha had also independently hired a private team to find the former Councilman, York Standish, after his betrayal had cost his pack several members during the brutal take over. The results of the investigation was part of why Solomon was here today.
Jonathan, Dayton, Salim, and Tracy waited for him in the new Alpha's office. The twins gave the old Alpha's office to Jonathan to use whenever he was home. Or to use for private meetings. Salim and Dayton decided to put a U-shaped desk in a much larger office to share. Several black leather chairs were placed nearby and a full-sized couch was against the opposite wall.
Greetings aside, Jonathan said, "I was surprised to get your call."
"You're still the Peacekeeper for the Council even if you're taking a temporary leave of service. This wasn't an official investigation which is why the Council itself cannot chase down what basically amounts to a rumor." Solomon replied. "I'm trying to change things but the Council has far too many duties to take on any further problems. That's why creating a 'Peacekeeping' position wasn't a problem and we need more."
"What's the rumor?" Tracy asked.
"Several of the men that attacked the Council and posed as fake guards were spotted at a warehouse near Bradnox. The investigator described a man thought to be Standish."
"Bradnox?" Dayton said, his brow furrowing in thought. "Isn't that near the Vampire Ball that you guys are going to?"
Jonathan nodded. "Yeah. LaRosse is not far from there."
"That would make sense. Standish plans on going to the ball. The Prime Purity might try to target the Royals. At least that what Hezekiah said Rameeta told him."
"The territory belongs to Vampires. The Werewolf Council would have to get permission to enter, unless that was undeniable evidence that a werewolf fugitive was hiding there and the Cub Creek Pack cannot be involved." Solomon said.
"Fortunately, I already have an invitation." Tracy interjected. "And my mate will be joining me. Dameon Wilde will also be there. Rogue or not, as a werewolf Jonathan can deputize him. Though he's not going to be very happy about it."
Solomon nodded. A weight lifted from his shoulders. His half brother-in-law told him that Hezekiah Mallory had interrogated David Remeeta and found out that York Standish planned to attend the Vampire Ball. He had asked Dameon in private to make the men who had raped and beat Maria pay in the most inhumane way possible.
When Dameon had told him about the ball and his plans to find the guards, Solomon worried about him getting into trouble. But with a legit invitation and the fact that he would be deputized, Dameon wouldn't necessarily be breaking any rules. If something happens to Dameon, Maria would never forgive Solomon and that thought made the councilman break out in a sweat.
---------------------
After their short meeting Jonathan and Tracy took Solomon out to lunch before the councilman would be heading home. Salim and Dayton were relieved that they wouldn't have to entertain since their mate was supposed to be coming back tomorrow. The twins were rushing to finish as much as they could so they could spend as much time as they could with her. Going through the paperwork, their secretary buzzed their intercom. "Alphas, I have Alpha Greenbriar on the line."
Salim and Dayton shared a look. "I wonder why Carrie's father is calling us?" Salim wondered.
"I would've thought that he would want to have the whole 'threatening my daughter's mates' conversation in person." Dayton responded before telling the secretary to put him through on speaker.
"Good afternoon, Alpha Greenbriar." Dayton greeted formally.
"Salim and Dayton?"
"We're both here." Salim replied.
"Good. I tried calling Carrie but she's not answering her phone. How's my daughter?"
"Carrie? She's not supposed to be arriving until tomorrow." Dayton replied puzzled.
"She left two days ago and she was heading there." Fredrick replied as worry crept into his tone.
The twins looked at each other trying to tamp down the rising panic. "We haven't seen her since she left."
"I'll tell my Beta to begin a search and confirm that she left. Shade and I are at Midway Pack for a meeting with Alpha Winters. Carrie said that she was leaving soon after we did. We were supposed to leave here and head to Cub Creek for a visit but the bridge leading into the pack lands has collapsed and we're stuck here until tomorrow or the next day."
"We'll have our security team look through the traffic cams between your pack and ours. What kind of vehicle did she take?" Salim asked.
"She wanted to call a taxi service. Mike's Transport."
"Alright we'll give them a call and see what we can find out. Please let us know what your Beta says."
==============================
Let the panic begin...
This chapter felt a bit choppy and rough. Sorry. My brain isn't functioning anymore.
