CHAPTER 6

Cub Creek Territory...

Asya pulled up to the fringes of her former pack. Dismounting her cherry red motorcycle, she waited. A chocolate wolf, smaller than those usually assigned to patrol, trotted out from the treeline. Asya swallowed back the tears as the she-wolf went behind a thick cedar to change. A cute redhead popped out.

"I want to smack you so bad." she cried as she pulled Asya into a tight hug.

"I deserve it, Jessie." Asya said.

The best friends sobbed and cried ungracefully, letting all their pain and hurt flow. The two were an odd looking pair. Asya was taller and slender while Jessie was shorter and plump. Both had red hair but Asya's was lighter with tight curling ringlets while Jesse's was darker and smooth. They had both been Omegas. Volunteering for the former Lunas' training, they rose to beat the much stronger pack members. Jessie met her mate, Landon, who was the Gamma of the Cub Creek Pack, during a tournament.

"You look good." Asya said looking at her friend.

Jessie smiled, "We have two pups now. London Mace and Jasmine Asya Page."

Asya half sobbed, half laughed. "You named your daughter after me?"

"Of course. You're my wonderful best friend."

A knot formed in her throat, her heart ached, and tears ran down Asya's face. "I'm not wonderful. I'm dirty and ruined beyond repair."

Falling to the damp earth Asya wailed out her sorrow and shame. Jessie knelt and simply held her in silence rocking her gently as if she were a pup.

"I'm so tired Jessie. I have nothing left."

"It's okay. It's okay. I promise. We'll get you back. We'll love you half or whole. It's okay."

"I've lost my fox. My dignity. My sanity. My mate." Asya wept.

"Half or whole, Aysa. Broken or fixed. I love you. I'll always love my best friend."

------------------

The old grandfather clock ticked loudly in the silent room. Asya sat on a leather wood chair in front of the Alpha's desk. Before her on the gleaming wooden surface was a gold chain with a heart shaped ruby pendant. The gold appeared dull due to the patina testifying to its age. Upon entering the office, Asya saw a young boy with unusual blue eyes that stood out against his dark skin. He smiled in greeting. Jonathan Mason, the former Alpha now a Peace Keeper, waved her into the empty seat. His mate Tracy, the born Protector, sat on the armrest. Jessie sat to one side with her mate, Landon. No one said a word as the boy produced the jewelry and set it down.

Memories crashed over Asya but instead of overwhelming her, she felt separated from her own horrors. Looking down briefly she noticed that the boy had taken her hand and it felt comforting.

Flashback...

Asya blinked rapidly, clearing the fuzziness from her eyes from the vision she just had. Trying to remain calm, she barely suppressed the whimpers of distress at being totally alone in her head. Layla, her fox, was gone.

She heard a noise from downstairs and recognized, with dread, the entity that was mounting the steps. Quickly returning the necklace to its hiding place her fingers couldn't let go of the only remaining tie to the man she loved.

Shoving the ring into her ponytail she prayed that it would stay. She had no time for anything else as the door swung open.

"Tut, tut. Such a disobedient pet." the Necromancer scolded softly. The evil in his eyes made Asya shiver in fear.

He stood in front of her casually tapping a leather whip with a silver tip against his leg. "A good pet should always sit at the door to greet its master." Without warning the whip lashed out striking her 6 or 7 times drawing blood with each lick.

Asya screamed in pain though she tried to hold back.

"Today my pet is going to be a good little bitch and suck my cock."

"Take your cock and fuck yourself with it." Asya gritted out.

The next minutes and hours blurred together into a bloody heap. The Necromancer, Absalom, picked her up by her throat. "A good pet will do as its master asks."

For the first time Asya can no longer take the pain. Her mind and body are breaking. "Please stop." she begged.

"But you're still a very bad pet." he smirked. "Come along." he says in a sing-song voice. Grabbing her by the arm, he leads her outside to a large open tent. Four yellow cots sat in the middle. On the cots lay a man, each rested with an unnatural stillness, with only a white paper sheet covering their bodies.

"A-are they dead?" Asya asked hesitantly.

"They are. But don't worry, I'll liven them up just for you."

The depraved acts committed that day by the reanimated corpses on her body completely destroyed Asya's sanity. It left a permanent scar in her mind and a wish for death that was never granted. From that day on she began to cater to his twisted sadistic desires embracing them as her own.

End of Flashback...

When she lost Layla, she had no one. The only hope she had was the memory of her mate. She made it a routine to tie the small ring, Night had given her, into a piece of her hair. Placing it just so that the monster that raped her and stripped her of her conscious mind wouldn't find it. The ring became an obsession that her broken mind continued long after her rescue. This necklace however was a lost part of soul and she could bring herself to touch it.

"In order to become whole and regain your fox. You must pick it up." the boy with the strange colored eyes said.

Asya shook her head in denial. "I've lost too much." she whispered.

Jessie knelt by her chair and clasped Asya's other hand.

"This is the part of you. That no one could touch or taint. Free yourself from the past." Jessie pleaded.

Asya shook her head again. "You don't know."

"You're right, I don't. You were alone but you're not anymore."

Closing her eyes, Asya remembered her pain.

"Come back when you are ready." the boy said soothingly.

Shooting out of the chair, Asya raced off. Jessie stood to follow but a warm hand stopped her. "She's not ready to heal."

"But if she is reunited with her fox-"

"You have a saying here. You can lead a horse to water-"

"But you can't make it drink." Jessie sighed.

"You care for your friend. Simply be her lead no matter how many times she strays."
