Chapter 53

CHAPTER 53

Haggai's House...

Dameon had just pulled in to the driveway and knocked on the door of the empty house when Ruby showed up with a suitcase in hand. 

"Dameon!" Ruby called.

He was always happy to see his former "pack member" from Rogue Ranch. She had been commuting between Rogue Lands and Cub Creek since she graduated with her nursing degree. Her mate, Galen, always next to her. He engulfed her in a tight hug. "How is everything?" he asked.

Fresh tears flowed and she sniffed.

"What's wrong?" he asked immediately concerned.

"My mate is dead." Ruby burst into tears saying the words she still refused to believe.

He pulled her to his chest rubbing her back in comfort. His heart ached for the girl that helped him during his darkest hour. Dameon walked her to his car. His wolf, Phinn, whimpered at the delay in seeing his second chance mate but stayed silent knowing that their friend needed help.

"Later." He said mentally to his wolf.

He drove them to a small off-road trail that had a picnic table tucked away. He had discovered it during one of his runs when he stayed at Cub Creek. Very few wolves came here and they wouldn't be disturbed. Ruby sobbed and cried as she explained what had happened. Dameon listened and his jaw clenched shut trying to control his anger. It wasn't fair that a sweet young woman would so cruelly be left on her own with a pup that she would have to hid.

Dameon kept his arm around her shoulder and squeezed the top of her arm gently. "Of course, you can stay with me. Not going to lie, it's going to be a bit awkward but I promise that nothing will happen to you or your pup."

Ruby sniffed, "Thank you."

"We'll leave soon but have to check on something. I actually came here because I was looking for my mate."

Ruby looked at him puzzled. Dameon smiled as happiness filled him. "I found my second chance mate."

Hugging him tightly, Ruby said, "I'm happy for you." She gave him a wobbly smile as her own heart ached for the mate she had lost and the father her child would never know. Dameon took her hand and stood. "Come. I'll look into finding my mate and then we'll all head home."

Cub Creek Territory...

Lee tried to focus on the task at hand. Salim had mind linked him immediately after he discovered that Carrie Greenbriar was missing. Lee was given top rank for this position. He immediately began to gather security footage and talked with Beta Talts as well as Alpha Greenbriar who was still trapped on Midway Pack land. It would have been easy to for his wolf to leave but would mean leaving his heavily pregnant mate behind. Shade was currently having pains that might be early labor and was staying at the Midway Pack clinic being monitored by the doctors.

Mido, Lucy's Soulmate and Shade's father, was not much help given that Carrie hadn't marked either twin. Still, he was trying to reach out to her wolf through the spirit realm. So far, he had been unsuccessful.

Finding Carrie, took Lee's full attention but any down time and his mind would immediately go to his mates. He demanded that they stay in the small apartment that Calvin had rented in Lythberg until he knew that there wasn't an immediate threat.

Jenna had told them how she and her wolf, Tina, felt. Lee and Calvin still struggled with the concept of having a male-to-male relationship. Lee and Calvin personally only felt attracted to each other when his sister's wolf, Rayna, pushed through. Since Jenna suggested that they try to have a "normal" relationship, Rayna has been a lot more accepting of her mate's lover. In fact, she's been pushing for a threesome and the images been both intriguing and disturbing.

Part of the strive to be "normal" meant that Jenna would spend time with Lee and his wolf, Raynor then she would demand that Rayna and Calvin and his wolf, Hector, would have alone time to go out to dinner or watch a movie.

Oddly enough, Jenna, Tina, and Rayna had become close friends and bonded over the tiny life that was growing every day. Rayna was still slightly jealous but accepted that she would never be able to have children of her own for obvious reasons. So, she would cherish the babe because it was a part of her mate. She also demanded that Calvin sleep in the same bed so that the pup would bond with his father. Lee sighed but gave in.

Raynor was sad that he still hadn't marked or had sex with his mate but neither wanted to push their mate while she was in a delicate state. Tina was becoming impatient and kept putting out pheromones which both Lee and Calvin were finding harder and harder to resist. Pregnancy hormones weren't helping and Jenna felt like an emotional wreck.

Throwing away his sandwich wrapper, Lee went back to methodically go through hours' worth of footage to trace all vehicles and that came from the direction of the Indigo Sky Pack. An old white cargo van caught his attention. There were very few vehicles driving at 3 am but this particular vehicle stood out. The logo was crooked and fresh looking compared to the van. Typing in the store name, Lee saw that there were zero matches. Running the plates, he saw that they were registered to a man living near Indigo Sky Pack but the vehicle registration said that they belonged to a 2021 white Ford van. This van was a Chevy cargo and defiantly not from last year.

Two men stopped at the gas station just outside of pack lands. He quickly took a picture of both men and ran them through the database of super naturals starting with shifters. Fast forwarding through the gas station's security he didn't see the van again. Checking the traffic camera on the other side of Indigo Sky he saw the van again in the morning hours after the Alpha and his mate left the territory around the time frame that the Beta believed that Carrie was taken. Keeping an eye on following the van he contacted Salim and Dayton.

"Alphas, I think I have something."
