CHAPTER 25 (MATURE CONTENT)
Flashback/Backstory Continued...
The next eight years were the most peaceful of her entire life. Silently reading an old scroll that had been left in the maze by the light of a candle in her shack, Eesha heard a noise. Quickly putting out the candle, she threw some old tarps over her body and makeshift bed.
The door burst open a moment later and two men walked in. Their garments were well made and clean meaning that they had wealth. Eesha didn't know why they had decided to intrude into her space but she knew better than to let them know that she was there.
Her unasked question was answered a moment later as the rickety door was slammed shut and the men locked in an intimate embrace. Eesha mentally recited every curse word she had ever heard twice and then made up a new list to drown out the grunting and rutting sounds the men were making.
For three hours, she was stuck as an unwilling audience to the couple's rendezvous. With a final thrust the men groaned signaling their completion. Eesha's relief was short-lived when they collapsed on a pile of burlap, which she was hidden under.
Both men sprang up and one yanked away the covering grabbing her by the throat.
"Why are you spying on us?!" he growled.
Eesha was terrified.
The other man sighed and sat on a crate, "It's not her fault Qadir."
"It's too dangerous to let her live."
The men argued for a moment before the second man stood and turned to pick up his clothes. A pale cat-shaped birthmark stood out against the man's brown skin and Eesha gasped.
"Fardeen?" she whispered in surprise. She felt resigned to her fate but in this moment she wondered if she was seeing her long lost brother. If she knew for sure that it was him then she would die happy.
The man stiffened before turning to face her. "Who?"
Eesha doubted her own mind. There was no way this nobleman was the long haired little boy she had known and loved.
Warm hands cupped her face and the other man's hand released her throat.
"Eesha?" he whispered. The dark brown eyes were the same as she remembered and for the first time in decades, she cried.
The next 16 years were the happiest of her life. Her brother Fardeen was the queen's consort, whom she had renamed Felix. He had found his Eternal One, Qadir, but it had to remain a secret for obvious reasons. The queen was possessive of her consort. Qadir was his bodyguard.
