2.8 Caught In Between

A/N: I wanted to write Toast as kind of a silly character whilst also referencing the hardships he suffers, It's just hard considering the darker themes of this story, I have no idea how he'll turn out, he'll likely just end up being the intermediary between Sykkuno and Rae.

TW: Swearing, Mentioning Self-Harm, Violence(?), Small Suicide Joke (Not too bad).

22nd July 2021 9:45am (Toast POV)

In my sleep I was having the most pleasant dream. Miyoung and I were on our first date, it was one of the greatest nights of my life. They always say that the first date is normally incredibly awkward but that wasn't the case with us, the night was filled with wonder and delight from the beginning to the end. We even ended the night with a passionate kiss as we vowed to meet again.

Unfortunately I was awoken out of my dream by a mixture of sounds, all forming together to make one super annoying noise. The first noise was the vacuum cleaner, indicating that Miyoung was doing the cleaning. The second noise was my phone ringing, whilst the final noise was Miyoung yelling at me to pick up my phone. I quickly thought back to the dream I had just had, "The good old days eh Toast?"

Wanting to appease Miyoung's cries, I picked up my phone without looking at the number and started grumbling.

Toast: "Who dare disrupts my hibernation?" I interrogated, in a low funny voice.

???: "To-Toast?" He stuttered, sniffling.

I recognised the voice to be Sykkuno, though he didn't sound totally happily. In fact, he sounded rather upset.

Toast: "Sykkuno? What's up buddy?"

Sykkuno: "I... Rae... *cries* She..."

Toast: "Sykkuno? What's wrong? Is Rae okay?" I questioned nervously.

Sykkuno: "She... She uhm..." He stammered, not being able to get a word out due to all his crying.

Toast: "Sykkuno! I need you to breathe. Relax. Deep breaths." I exclaimed, trying to soothe him.

Sykkuno: *exhales deeply*

Toast: "Now! Tell me what's wrong."

Sykkuno: "Okay... I was sleeping with Rae... When I woke up she was making breakfast... I went to kiss her... And... And she... She hit me..." He resumed crying.

Toast: "Dear lord..."

Rae had filled us in on Sykkuno's situation with Richard, I was appalled to say the least. But to hear that Rae had treated him that way? I was in disbelief. And what was this about kissing her? I needed answers from him.

Toast: "Sykkuno?"

Sykkuno: "Y-Yeah?"

Toast: "Can you elaborate please?" I pleaded gently.

Sykkuno: "H-How?"

Toast: "Was it an accident?" I questioned.

Sykkuno: "She said it was..."

Toast: "Do you think it was an accident?"

Sykkuno: "I think so... She'd never done it before so... Probably..."

Toast: "So what's the problem?"

Sykkuno: "I don't feel safe there..."

Toast: "Why not? It was just an accident?" I questioned, wanting him to rationalise his thinking.

Sykkuno: "You don't get it Toast! It doesn't matter whether it was an accident or not... She still did it... And if she did it once..."

Toast: "Okay... I understand."
