Chapter 42
There were only three days out of the year that I loved, not including weekends, of course. I was talking about days that occur once a year.
Day one, Halloween. Free candy, dressing up, scary movies. Not to mention I preferred the trick side of trick or treat, so it gave me the opportunity to show a bunch of pranks I had been saving for that day. Mr. McCabe had been considering on banning Halloween from Fyodor Academy because of me, but then he realized that wasn't fair for anyone else.
Day two, Valentine's Day. Okay, so I knew that majority of Valentine's Day was a marketing strategy for companies to make big bucks on the day with all their cards and chocolate and gifts. The day also got very competitive at my school, a lot of couples wanting to prove that they were the best couple. Despite being competitive myself at times, this was one day I pushed the part of me aside. I didn't care if my gifts were better than anyone else's. I only cared if Jules loved it. So it was just a day the two of us could find an excuse to be all romantic.
Day three, today. Otherwise known as Jules's birthday. If I could, I would shower Jules with presents every single day. He wouldn't let me, though. Something about how I shouldn't be spending all my money on him. He became even more adamant about that when he found out who my parents were. He didn't want me to spend money on him just to spite my parents.
I mean, it wasn't exactly to spite my parents but it was a huge bonus.
So Jules's birthday was the only day he allowed me to spoil him completely. As much as I wanted to go over the top with presents, I made sure I didn't.
Christmas would probably be a different story, even if I wasn't exactly that fond of Christmas. But hey, if it meant I could shower Jules with presents, I was all for loving Christmas.
"You know, I'm glad my birthday fell on a Saturday this year," Jules said as he sat up on the bed, reaching for his water bottle sitting on the nightstand.
As he drank out of the water bottle, I said, "I'm glad too. No classes, no quizzes, no teachers telling me to stop sleeping in class."
Jules put the water bottle back on the nightstand before he laid back down beside me. "That never stops you, anyway. Nothing any teachers say stops you."
"Mmm, I guess that's true. Still, I don't have to deal with them thinking I don't know the answers to the questions they ask when I clearly do. So what else do you want to do today? We can sneak off of campus, take a first class trip somewhere, not return until tomorrow..."
"Nah, I'd rather just chill in the dorm room all day," Jules said.
"Really? You don't even want to go to a fancy restaurant or something?"
Jules shook his head. "The past few weeks have been a bit stressful, so I don't really want to go out anyway. I'd rather just stay here."
"Ah, yes, because when school makes you stressful, you'd rather stay in the dorms than leave campus to go somewhere else."
"Oh, shush. You know what I mean."
"Can I at least order some food?"
Jules furrowed his eyebrows. "Are we even allowed to do that?"
I shrugged. "Dunno. There has never been any rules against it. I always just met the delivery person at the front gate and never had any problems. So, what will it be?"
Jules thought for a bit, weighing all of his options. In the end, he said, "I'm kind of craving sushi. You know, from an authentic sushi restaurant and not just the California rolls we get in the cafeteria."
"Then I'll make sure I order it from your favourite place. Later, though. I just want to stay in bed a bit longer."
"Well, now that you mention it, I kind of want to get out of bed." I scowled, and Jules just laughed before leaning over to kiss me. "I'm kidding." He kissed me again before pulling me closer to him. "Hey, so did your grandpa mention why that official looking woman met with him a few days ago?"
I shook my head. "Nah, but I did bring it up. He would have told me if it was something but because he knows I don't like it when people hide things from me. Probably because my parents hid the fact that he was my grandpa."
"Probably."
"Right? Yeah, so, it's nothing bad. Honestly, I was worried he was going to get fired or something."
"What for?"
"I dunno. For letting my pranks and stuff slide for so long. I mean, Mr. What's-His-Face tried suspending me over it. I think. I don't know, I wasn't listening to any of the punishments he tried giving me. But... Yeah, I know I'm not the best person..."
"Hey, Paz..." Jules sat up on the bed, making me sit up as well so I could look at him. "One of the reasons why you did all those pranks was to get attention from your parents. Mr. McCabe knows that. And he knows you would never do anything to purposefully harm anyone. That's why he hasn't suspended you, and a bunch of other people who don't exactly listen to the rules. Besides, if anyone's going to get suspended, it's going to be Malcolm."
"Ugh, Malcom," I said, grabbing one of the pillows before smacking Jules with it. "Just mentioning his name completely ruined the mood. Thanks for that."
I was going to smack Jules again, but he caught the pillow and instead hit me with it. "The mood had finished a while ago."
My cell phone suddenly beeped with a message, but it was all the way on my side of the room, and I really did not want to get up to read it. I groaned, lying back down on the bed. "I think I need to change S.T.E.V.E from a spying robot into a phone retrieving robot."
"Your phone literally isn't that far," Jules said. "I think you can get it."
"But I'm naked. If I get out of bed, you'll see me naked. That's very inappropriate."
Jules reached off the side of his bed, grabbing my clothes before throwing them at me. I scowled now that I couldn't use that excuse to stay in bed. I put my clothes back on before getting off the furniture, heading to where I left my phone at my desk.
Thankfully, the message wasn't from my parents, otherwise I would have been even more pissed that I had to get out of bed. Instead, it was from my grandpa. "Oh. Well. I didn't expect this."
"What is it?" Jules asked.
"My grandpa just told me the reason why that official looking woman met with him a few days ago," I said. "She wants me to enrol in this very exclusive science program. That starts next month."
