Chapter 23

Saturday was the main day where not too many people occupied the functioning rooms such as the science lab and the library. They would rather go there the day before their assignments were due or during the week when it was a school day.

People would rather not do school work on Saturdays, even if this was a school for the gifted and some of us genuinely enjoyed science, math, and other similar classes.

I was just happy nobody was occupying the science lab when I got in there, carrying two containers filled with different soil.

I placed the containers on one of the science tables before going to my rented locker in the lab. I took out my lab coat and goggles, putting both of them on. I then grabbed my supplies out of the locker, bringing them over to the table I was going to be working on.

I sorted all the supplies to help me keep this project organized.

This wasn't even an assignment for class or anything. I just felt like doing a science experiment for myself.

I got my love for music from my dad and my love for science from my mom. And since music wasn't really helping me feel better, or at least feel something, I was now turning to science.

Right as I was about to put on my gloves for the experiment, my cell phone started to ring. I pulled it out of my pocket, looking at the caller ID. I hesitated before I just placed my cell phone on the table, letting the ring end so Jules wouldn't know if I immediately hung up on him.

Jules did try to call again and once I still didn't answer, he started sending me a lot of texts. Since my gloves were on and I was in the middle of the experiment, I couldn't pick up my phone so I leaned closer to the table to see all the messages.

I should reply to it but I just didn't feel like it, as horrible as that sounded. I would put my phone on do not disturb but that included taking off my gloves right now and I was too into this experiment to do it.

Besides, my gloves were all muddy right now and if I take it off, it might be too hard to put back on. I'd rather just take it off when I was done with this part prepping for the experiment.

The door to the science lab suddenly opened but I didn't bother looking to see who it was. It could have been someone who wanted to do an experiment right now or needed to work on a school assignment.

       It wasn't.

The person who walked in said, "There you are. I've been looking everywhere for you and you haven't been answering your phone."

       "I know," I said.

"So... Do you just want to be alone right now?" Jules asked. I shrugged, causing Jules to sigh. "Parry, you have to communicate with me. If you want to be alone, just tell me and I'll leave. If you don't want to be alone, I'll stay. You just have to tell me."
