Chapter 26

The more days that passed, the worse the disciplinary program was becoming. I didn't know why this was even a thing because really, it was putting everyone in a horrible mood.

And with everyone in a horrible mood, I doubt we were going to do well in school when we were just moody.

       Especially me.

It wasn't really a good thing to put me in a bad mood. I was going to go the simpler direction to ending this program but ever since Mr. Clutterbuck made the punishments worse, and since all my friends except for Mack decided I was too immature, I decided to make things a lot more extravagant.

It was just deciding exactly what I was going to do to make Mr. Clutterbuck realize this program wasn't going to work at all.

As much as I wanted to use the truth serum, I realized it wasn't the best idea. It was still in its testing stage and it might backfire on me, especially if I use it on Mr. Clutterbuck and end up being exposed to the truth serum myself.

I just wish I thought of that before testing it again because I probably wouldn't be mad at all my friends, and my boyfriend, right now.

Then again, at least I knew how they really felt about it.

During lunch, Mack was flipping through my notebook of research and experiments to see if there was anything in there we could do since he was helping me out. There weren't that many prank ideas but some of my experiments might be used as a prank.

After all, I was going to use the truth serum when it was just an experiment I was doing for fun.

"Have you tried talking to Mr. McCabe yet about the whole program thing?" Mack asked as he flipped through the notebook. "I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be okay with everything that's happening."

"I try but every time I got to his office, Mr. Clutterbuck is there and refuses to leave the office," I said. "Even if I say that it's a personal reason."

"Why don't you text him?" Mack asked. "Don't you have his number or something?"

"I can't because I..." I began before I cut myself off. "Oh, wow. I'm an idiot. I can't believe I didn't think about that earlier."

I was about to text my grandpa but then I saw him walk into the dining hall. He looked around before noticing me. He walked over.

"Ooh, perfect timing," I said. "I was about to text you. I should have thought about doing it a long time ago but I keep forgetting that I have your phone number."

"Why aren't you sitting with Jules?" Mr. McCabe asked, completely ignoring what I just said.

       "What?" I asked.

"Jules is sitting at a different table with the rest of your friends," Mr. McCabe said.

"Uh, not the rest of my friends," I said. "Mack is my friend. He's sitting right beside me."

Mr. McCabe sighed. "You know what I meant, Parry. So why aren't you sitting with him? Is everything okay?"

"Nope," I said honestly. "Hey, so can I talk to you about Mr. Clutterbuck?"

"Oh, right, that's actually why I'm here," Mr. McCabe said. "I know you've been wanting to talk to me about him but you're never given the chance because he won't leave the office. I've been wanting to text you as well but every time I pull out my cell phone, he reminds me that I'm at work and shouldn't be using it for personal reasons right now."
