Chapter 21

I leaned back in the seat in the doctor's office, crossing my arms over my chest. I really felt like I was being here against my own will. I just wanted to stay back in my dorm room and strum my guitar really loudly to annoy everyone. But no, I had to come to this stupid doctor's appointment.

I was planning on going to the bathroom and seeing if there was any way out of here but considering we were on the third floor, that wasn't the best option.

And Jules knew about my tendency to escape through the washroom when I didn't want to be somewhere so he would probably know of my plans.

Both Jules and Mr. McCabe were waiting in the doctor's office with me. Even though I really didn't want to be here, at least they cared enough to be here with me. The appointment was actually during class because it was the only available time with my doctor for a while so I was a bit surprised Mr. McCabe allowed Jules to come with me, especially when his grades weren't exactly the best right now.

"Can we go back to the school now?" I asked.

"Nope," Mr. McCabe said. "You need to get checked out and you can't hold it off any longer, especially if you want a proper reasoning why you should continue rooming with Jules."

"So what you're saying is if the doctor doesn't think anything's wrong with me, we're getting different roommates anyway?" I asked.

"Parry, you have to understand that there are consequences for some of your life decisions," Mr. McCabe said. "I can't let you get away with every single thing you do at the school. If you really can't control it, then of course I can't punish you over it. But if you can..."

"Then I'll go back to being lonely and living by myself," I said. "How considerate."

"He did say we'll just be switching with Mack and Mateus," Jules said. "It will get some getting used to but it can't be that bad."

I glared at my boyfriend. "I thought you were on my side."

"I am," Jules said. "I want to keep rooming with you too but he's right. If this is something you can control, you can't get away with it all the time."

I sunk further in my seat. "I hope the both of you know that a roommate switch won't stop me. I'll just take things to a different level."

"No, you weren't," Mr. McCabe said. "Because the roommate change would only be temporary. If you go a while without breaking rules, I'll switch you back. So you're going to want to try your best to be on your best behaviour if you want to room with Jules again."

       "Whatever," I muttered.

My family's doctor, Dr. Guidry, walked out of her office and called my name. I sighed heavily and got up from my chair, walking over to her. She led me into her office where I immediately sat down.

Once she closed the door and sat down across from me, she said, "So when your grandpa emailed the receptionist to make an appointment, he said he was worried about your mental health and how you're constantly getting into trouble even when you've been told countless of times not to. Can you expand on this?"

I was silent for a bit, not wanting to talk about it but I knew I had to. If Jules was right, if there was something wrong, I had to be treated.

"I attend the boarding school where he's the headmaster," I said. "So he knows all about my trouble making. At first, it started off to get my parents' attention. I was always trying to call or text them but they never replied unless they wanted something themselves. So I was constantly doing things to get their attention, like releasing endless amounts of animals in their school. But then... I realized I kind of enjoyed everything I did to cause mayhem in school. Like I was addicted to it."
