Chapter 38
I walked into my dorm room, my arms filled with all sorts of things in a box that would give me and Jules the inspiration we needed for our science fair project. I had the most amazing idea for it, one that I knew Jules would like as well.
Right as I was about to tell Jules my idea, I noticed that he was video chatting with his parents. I kind of wanted to annoy them, but I decided against it.
Well, sort of. I wasn't going to say anything that annoyed them, but I knew well enough that walking by so they would see me would annoy them.
I walked by, dropping the box on Jules's bed. I immediately heard Sheri sighed. "I see you're still roommates with him."
"You mean my boyfriend?" Jules asked. "Yes, I am. I keep telling you that not rooming with him will only make things worse for my grades. He's the smartest in the school."
"Definitely not the most well behaved," Sheri said.
"At least he's a kind hearted person," Jules said. "He's the sweetest person I ever met and I would really appreciate it if you just listened to me for once and stopped trying to tear him down." With that, he ended the call and closed his laptop. "I swear, one of these days, I'm just going to completely ignore them."
"If you ever want to get them mad, I say we should actually elope the minute we both turn eighteen," I said.
"Not happening."
"You don't want to marry me?"
"What? No. I just don't want to elope to annoy my parents. If we get married, I want a proper wedding."
"Awe, so you do want to marry me?"
Jules's cheeks immediately began to redden, something I knew was going to happen. Every single time I brought up us getting married, not eloping though, he got very flustered. "Stop."
I just smiled at him. He was so cute when he was all flustered.
To change the subject, Jules looked at the box I dropped on his bed. "So what's that?" he asked.
"Oh, this is something I think you're going to like," I said.
Jules peered into the box, his eyebrows. "You think I'd like..." He pulled out an electrolyte tester. "Science equipment?"
"Okay, not that specific thing," I said. "Or anything in the box, really. It's what we're going to do with what's in the box."
Jules sighed. "Parry, I swear, if we're going to be making a truth serum..."
I laughed. "No, no, not at all. I promised you that we wouldn't do that for the science fair. I mean, I might do it on my own, but that's besides the point. So, I was thinking about what we could do for the science fair and it clued in to me. Why not do a project that would interest you? As long as science, it interests me so we just need something you'll like."
"Okay, so do you have an exact idea?" Jules asked.
"I do," I said. "We are going to make our own sports drink. And not just a simple recipe we find online or something. We're going to create our own recipe with all the health benefits and sports things and blah blah blah."
"Wow, you really know nothing about sports, do you?" Jules asked.
"All I know is that you kick a ball into a net and get all sweaty. Anyway, you know about the... the muscles and... bones... stuff, so you'll know if the drink actually works." I could tell Jules was trying his best to hold in a laugh. "What's so funny?"
"Nothing," Jules said. "It's just... refreshing listening to you not really know what you're talking about."
"Yeah, yeah," I said. "So what do you say? Sound like a good project?"
Jules smiled. "Yeah, it does. It's one that actually sounds interesting to me and won't feel like a bunch of work I don't want to do. Thank you, for thinking about one I would want to do."
"Of course. So want to get started? We'll have to research all the ingredients we'll need and get it shipped to the school. That's probably all we can do today."
"Sounds like a plan," Jules said as he opened his laptop so we could get to work. I sat down on Jules's lap, feeling too lazy to drag my computer chair to the desk. "Oh, and before you ask, no, you're not going to be ordering animals online or something."
"Don't be ridiculous," I said. "I would never do that. I would only go through my animal guy. He's trustworthy. You don't know what you can get if you try to order animals online."
"Okay, but that means you can't go to your animal guy and get animals for the science fair," Jules said. "Keep it peaceful. Please."
"Don't worry, I actually will," I said. "I talked to my grandpa about getting S.T.E.V.E back and he said the only way that will happen is if I don't cause any chaos at the science fair. No pranks and definitely no animals. So I'm going to be a good boy and not cause any trouble until it's done."
"How can I make sure you're telling the truth?" Jules asked. "Because you've said so many times before that you won't get into any trouble but you do."
"Ooh, here's an idea," I said. "I make the truth serum and you use it on me."
"No, truth serum, Parry," Jules said.
"Fine, fine," I said. "But I promise that I actually won't start anything. I really want S.T.E.V.E back. I miss him. He's my best friend."
Jules chuckled. "Well, at least it's something that's going to be keeping you out of trouble. But should I be offended that a robot replaced me as a best friend?"
"Nah," I said, hooking my arms around his shoulders. "S.T.E.V.E is my non-human best friend and you are my human best friend."
"Oh, I'm honoured," Jules said before pressing his lips on mine.
