Chapter 12

I checked my phone for any new messages but once I saw there was none, I sighed and placed my phone on the nightstand table before staring up at the ceiling. I didn't know why I got my hopes up every year. For the upcoming parent orientation day, I was once again hoping my parents would actually agree to go to it this year.

I should have known better with Dad being on tour and Mom being on an excursion in Europe.

I sent them a week ago when I got back from the camping trip asking if they could make it but they never got back to me. Even though Mom was texting me constantly during the trip because I wasn't replying to her.

Funny how they only sent me texts or called me when it was convenient for them.

Jules walked into our dorm room, immediately noticing how upset I was feeling so he walked over at sat at the edge of my bed. "You okay?" he asked.

I sighed. "Yeah. Let's just say I got my hopes up one too many times." Jules furrowed his eyebrows so I continued. "I texted my parents asking if they could come to the parent orientation day that's coming up. That was a week ago and I still haven't gotten a reply. I even tried calling them but no answer. I didn't even know why I thought there was a chance they would go to it."

       "Oh, I'm sorry," Jules said.

"Don't be," I said. "I pretty much brought it onto myself for thinking otherwise. I'll be okay, though. Probably."

"Well, I do know how to make you feel better," Jules said. "Because guess what's finally going to happen any second now?"

       "Malcolm getting expelled?"

"What? No, although that would be amazing."

"Well, I don't see how anything else can make me feel better."

"There is one thing," Jules said.

"Really?" I asked. "And what is that?"

Jules didn't reply. Instead, he just walked over to his desk and sat down on the chair. A few moments later, he got a video chat request and that reminded me of the one thing I had been waiting for; Jules telling his parents that we were eloping.

They probably wouldn't believe it but it still was going to be funny seeing their reaction.

"Sorry I wasn't able to talk to you two last week," Jules said to his parents once he accepted the video chat request. "You know, with the whole camping trip."

"It's all good," Sheri said. "You can't wait to see you and Maple in two weeks for the parent orientation day."

I silently sighed. So much for feeling better. Every time the words 'parent orientation day' came up, I was only going to get even more upset because I hadn't seen my parents together for a very long time.

"So how are you doing?" Clifford asked.

"Great," Jules said. "Actually, there's something I have to tell you. About Parry."

"Did the two of you finally break up?" Sheri asked.

That was what caused me to get off of my bed and walk over to Jules, crouching down so Sheri and Clifford could see me. "Finally?" I repeated. "Why are you two always disrespecting me? I'm the best person for Jules?"

"The best person?" Sheri asked before snorting. "Jules's grades have been going down because of you. Ever since the two of you started dating, in fact."
