Chapter 14
The day I had been dreading had finally arrived; Parent Orientation Day. The day where everyone's parents or guardians came to the school for the weekend to learn how their kids were doing and what the school was like.
The day I always felt so alone because every single person had someone show up. Even if their parents or guardian couldn't show up, they still had someone; an aunt, uncle, older sibling, grandparent. Anyone.
I never had anyone.
During the Parent Orientation Day, I spent most of my time in the dorm room while everyone got to spend time with their family members. This one will probably be the same but right now, I was with everyone else in the courtyard.
Mainly because there was a bunch of food set outside for everyone to eat while mingling. I definitely wasn't going to be mingling with anyone, though. I was only going to be eating all the food here.
As well as avoid Jules's parents because every single year, they always gave me disappointing looks. Which was another reason I stayed in my dorm room most of the time since Jules's parents were always too busy going around the school to see what it was like and how their children were doing.
Mr. McCabe was by one of the tables, making sure everything was set up properly so I walked over to him. "So I have a proposition for you," I said.
"And what would that be?" Mr. McCabe asked.
"You can be my parent for the day," I said. "That way, I'll actually be able to participate in whatever is planned for the day."
"You know I would Parry but really, there's no point," Mr. McCabe said. "I already know how you're doing in this school, how you can improve, and what the school is like."
"Really?" I asked. "And how exactly can I improve? Because my grades are as perfect as they're going to get."
"Yes, but you should improve your attitude," Mr. McCabe said. "Mainly by not calling your animal guy or doing anything which you deem as 'bringing a flare to the school'. And yes, I'm aware you have an animal guy."
"Okay, fair point but we both know I'm probably not going to stop bringing a flare to the school any time soon," I said. "Meaning you can be my parent for the day since I still need to improve."
"You're only going to ignore everything I say," Mr. McCabe said. "So if you really do want to participate, you can help me out with running things. And those who are helping out are going to have a sort of pizza party Monday at lunch."
"Then count me in," I said. "Wow, I never thought I'd say those words about helping out with something at the school. Can I bring a date to the pizza party?"
Mr. McCabe chuckled. "Well, considering you two rarely do anything apart, sure, you can bring Jules. Speaking of, why aren't you two together now?"
"Because I am avoiding his parents," I said. "For some odd reason, they're not too fond of me."
"Well, then you should prep yourself because I think that's them walking over here," Mr. McCabe said so I followed his gaze and sure enough, Clifford and Sheri were walking over with Jules and Maple.
Great.
They were probably going to talk to Mr. McCabe so I was just going to stand off to the side, eating all this food and ignoring their existence until they directly talk to me.
