Wither's POV
Huh...
I walked down the hallway and looked around as silence still hung in the air.
"Okay. Where is she?" I huffed. I checked the kitchen, the living room, even rooms she never goes in but didn't see her anywhere.
Normally, silence is a good thing for me. It means no one has come barging into my house or has set up some stupid prank for whenever I come home that day. However, this isn't a normal situation. I've got a prisoner who doesn't like staying in her cell and, if her staying around me whenever I'm home says anything, she doesn't like being alone. After two weeks of coming home to a greeting and my inevitable injuries being tended to, I've almost become used to it. Sure, it's late right now, but that hasn't stopped her yet. She never sleeps.
I quickly shoved away the painting hiding the door to the basement cells, speed walking my way down them and towards Anna's room. She better not have escaped! If she had before, than I probably wouldn't care. But after promising she wouldn't whenever I asked, I'll admit I'd be pissed about it now.
I opened the door quietly incase I was wrong and she was asleep, but I didn't need to. She isn't asleep.
Anna didn't even notice when I came in. She just lied on the couch, lost in thought and staring at the ceiling. She almost looked upset by something. I took another step towards her and she jumped to a sitting position before sighing in relief.
"My god, Withe, you scared the hell outta me." She sighed. I smiled a little and sat down beside her.
"It's not my fault your so easy to startle." She scoffed like I'd insulted her but it was clear whatever mood she had before hasn't left yet. "Is everything okay? Your rarely here without me having to tell you to." Anna stayed silent for a second before looking away from me entirely.
"...No." She answered, quietly. I frowned, waiting for her to continue but it took a while. "I think they know I'm here."
"Ann, if they knew by now, either I'd get an earful from all of them or a beating from all of them, and I've got neither." I answered. "Plus, why would you be upset about that?"
"You mean aside from them never letting me visit you again?" Why would you want to?! I really don't get this woman. I stole her from her friends while she was sleeping and despite all she's done she is still technically my prisoner. Yet she's sitting down here upset that she won't get to see me?
"I seriously don't get you. It's like we aren't seeing the same place around us." I sighed, deeply. "You realize your my prisoner, right? Even if you left, I'd just bring you back until I got what I wanted. You aren't this dumb so why exactly would you even want to see me again?"
"To be your friend instead." She pouted. I gave her a once over but it was hard to focus from all the heat in my face. I just don't get her at all.
"M-moving on from that, why do you think they know? I haven't heard a thing from any of them all week." I asked.
"Everyday for the last few days, Brine, Creeps, and Bones have all been come to search around the house while your gone. I made sure they didn't leave any pranks or anything but it's beginning to get harder and harder to hide from them quick enough." Anna answered.
"You still didn't answer me fully. Why would you be upset about that? The sooner they find you, the sooner you can see them. Don't you miss them?"
"Of course I miss them, but they've got me worried. The whole reason I agreed to this was to help you and them fix this fight you've had going on. Yet they won't even talk to you and apologize before deciding to sneak around your house instead." That is a really good point. I glared towards the upstairs, and growled slightly. I don't like the idea of them coming into my home while I'm gone and snooping around. "Withe, if they find me, it's game over. Who knows if this'll get fixed after that."
Not to mention, once she's safe with them it's a guarantee they will just retaliate. After stealing their little mortal friend, I don't doubt I'll become home to a new prank everyday. It may not be as bad as their last one but after fighting all day, I won't even want to go home anymore. Paint dumped on my, rooms rearranged to be on the ceiling, changing the colors and sizes of furniture, and the list just keeps on going. I stood up with a heavy sigh, holding my hand out to her. Anna took it and I helped her up.
"Okay, you've got a point. It's time to change tactics." I lead the way out of her room and back towards the stairs.
"What are you going to do?" She asked, catching up to me.
"I'm going to confront them first."
~~~~~~
"You know, when I said I would cooperate, I thought I got out of being stuck like this." Anna huffed, wiggling around her wrists in the most likely uncomfortable ropes.
"Well, we have to sell it, don't we?" I chuckled. She glared at me slightly and I smirked. "Besides, I tied it crappily on purpose, I'm sure you could get out with enough effort."
"That doesn't change the fact it's uncomfortable." The short woman huffed. I couldn't help being entertained by it, but I did feel a little bad seeing the reddening around her wrists.
"I'll make it up to you later."
"How?" Now that caught her interest. I chuckled and shook my head.
"I'll make you dinner the next time we're stuck together."
"I'll keep you up to that!" She smiled, happily.
She's such a weird woman. I kinda like it.
