"Are you still mad at me?"
"Yep."
"Dang it."I looked away from the pouting Enderman and back to my messenger. Out of everything I was afraid would happen, him being all pissy about telling H and not him wasn't one. I felt my mini messenger vibrate for the 10th time in the last 10 minutes. Why must he be so persistent?! But that does give me an idea!
"Will telling you about my brothers make up for it?" Like flipping a switch, he turned towards me, a smug look on his face. Wait, did he plan for me to do that?! I can't tell if I'm more annoyed or proud.
"Yep."
"You've had questions, huh?""Ever since Brine mentioned your brothers knew there weren't any other portals open."
"Fine, ask away." I sounded annoyed but seeing him not sulking for once this week was nice. Like some kind of alarm was set off, H popped up in the couch across from us. He smirked and I rolled my eyes as he got comfortable for this. "You two are ridiculous."
"You first, Endie."
"How many brothers do you have?""Thanks for not going into the hard hitters. I've got seven." Suddenly they looked like they'd been slapped. I don't blame them, I've become use to the reaction, especially from guys. Then there are the single girls who ask if they are 'cute and free'. I giggled. Admittedly, their reactions are priceless. H just about choked on the food he brought in.
"Seven?" Endie asked. I nodded. "Are they all older?"
"That, is a stereotype. No, they aren't all older. In fact, I am the second oldest."
"Who's the oldest?" Pft-
"You want a list?"
"Yes." They both answered."Wow. Okay." Why do they care so much? Then again, I have been bringing them up, I just didn't think they'd care to know. "Arin is the oldest, but also the most reckless; Than it's me; Next would be Patrick, he works with my brother as head of the family because of what I previously said; next is the triplets, Kendrick, Leland, and Andrew." I smiled fondly as I listed them off on my fingers. Despite my words and actions, I'm fond of them all. I'm just bad at the whole 'family' thing, I guess. "Then it's Ogden, a confident kid with enough sass to go around; And last is Freddy, our bright eyed little brother. If you two think I'm cute, wait till you see him."
I took out my messenger, the barrage of text messages haulting for a while. I smiled a little bigger once I found his picture, showing it to Endie. His eyes widened a little and he chuckled, taking it to show to H.
"Wow. If he looks as cute as you, what about the others?" He chuckled, now on the other side of Endie. I went through my pictures and found one with all of us in a group photo. It was a good few years ago, but close enough. I turned it to them and they paused.
"Holy shit..." They mumbled and I laughed, putting the messenger on the table between the couches.
"Dude, how is your whole family so attractive?! One or two of you I get, but all eight?" Brine blurted out. I laughed harder.
"Agreed." Endie chuckled. "You looked younger in that. How long has it been since you've seen them?" They let me calm down before answering.
"Uh, that was from five years ago so, about three?" They gave me a look but I waved them off. "You'll see why when I explain the 'family business'."
"What is it than? Because I already don't get it." Brine asked.
"It's another list, ya ready?"
"Geez your life is just all lists, Ann.""Shad up." I pouted and he smirked. "The main business is going to the end and defeating the dragon for eggs and experience-"
"I hate it already." Endie said, flatly. I gave him a sympathetic smile.
"I did warn you. Anyway, they also basically control a good portion of the city they live in/under. Including the dark parts where people pay them a bunch of money to do whatever job they need done. There's a whole web of underlings to do them, but my brothers Arin and Patrick are head of those. The triplets train people to fight, Ogden gathers information, and Freddy stays at home and takes care of things there because he agrees with me: We hate it all."
"Thats.... How are you from a family like that?!" H asked. I laughed a little, half hearted and heavy. I looked at the ground, remembering it all.
"It wasn't easy, I'll give you that." I sighed and rubbed my face a little, my eyes threatening to water but rubbing it all away. "I escaped it but they stay on purpose. I hate it. I can't even visit them that often because of it." I felt a hand stop me and looked up over my own. Endie gave me a sympathetic smile, H not too far behind. I need a mundane potion.
"You going to be OK?" He asked. I nodded slightly and got up, heading for the kitchen.
"As soon as I get some potions in me? Yeah. I will be." I stopped but decided to leave my messenger. It's vibrating again. "No more questions for today."
