Uuugh, I let them keep me out too long. Even after I finished all my morning baking the headache pounding in my head was still there. I sipped on another mundane potion before going to the doors to open up shop for the day. I unlocked it and turned the sign when I noticed a familiar face waiting outside with someone.
"Endie? Your here early, good morning!" I smiled, cringing a bit at the sunlight that came into the front. They walked in but it seems I hadn't hidden my pain as well as I thought.
"Yep, I wanted to show my friend the shop." He frowned and gave me a worried look. "You OK, Anna?"
"Um, yeah. Just a little headache." I answered, walking behind the counter. They followed me up to it and stood on the other side. "My friends I was talking about kept me out too long last night. They kept giving me potions, so now I have a bad headache, but at least it's not the rest of the hangover they have."
"I don't like them." Endie said bluntly, making me giggle.
"I know, I know, but their good to me." I closed the top of the glass display and smiled at his guest. He had on a teal shirt and jeans with sunglasses he didn't seem to want to take off. "You must be Endie's friend. I'm Anna, it's nice to meet you."
"Just call me H, it's nice to meet you, too. Endie talks so highly of you I had to come see you for myself." Endie gave him an annoyed glare while the man simply smirked at him in response. I giggled and shook my head.
"Well, since it's your first time, how about something on the house. You too, Endie."
"You know I hate that."
"But you always accept it."
"Who refuses free food?"
I let them pick out two things, Endie getting an apple danish and H getting a Nether roll. The red swirled into the bread beautifully, I'm pretty happy with it seeing as it never works out that way half the time. So many ugly batches... I was about to go back to the kitchen since no one else was in yet when Endie stopped me.
"Why don't you have breakfast with us? If your not busy, that is."
I was caught off guard by the offer. Usually I'll go over and hang out with him until more customers come in but he never asks so bluntly. H gave him a smirk to which he got a swift elbow to the side for. I smiled a little more, the two reminding me of Wendy and Tara somehow. If they heard his offer, they would have done the same.
"I'd love to." I smiled. He nodded and they headed to a table near the back, thankfully. I slipped off my apron and grabbed a few chocolate croissants to bring with me, sitting down across from them. "How was Creeps' party? Did she like the cupcakes?"
"She loved them. Thanks again for that, mines were terrible." I bit into a croissant and shook my head.
"I'm sure they weren't that bad." H chuckled at this and Endie looked away, eating his danish.
"I confused them for chunks of coal at first." H teased, looking at Endie.
"I fell asleep, shoot me." Endie mumbled and I giggled. "How was last night?"
"Eh, once I got drunk it was good." I answered, honestly. Endie turned to me and smiled, sympathetically.
"They brought Henry and James, huh?"
"Yeah, yeah they did."
"Fifth wheel again?"
"Yeah, yeah I was."
At this point I was pouting and finishing off my food. I heard the muted bell over the door and looked over, seeing a few more regulars waving at me. I brightened up and got up from my chair, looking back to Endie and H.
"Sorry, guys. I need to get back to work! It was nice meeting you, H." With that I rushed back into the kitchen and washed up, going back to my job. I don't mind it, I love my little slice-of-happiness bakery, but today I wish I could just sit with Endie all day.
As much as I like my friends, they rarely come in. Which makes times like last night where they say I work too much so ironic. All my regulars are nice to me but they aren't friends. Not like Endie, and hopefully now H.

"Dude."
"Hm?"
"She's adorable."
"Yep."
"I see what you meant now." Brine mumbled, walking out of the shop. The smell of baked goods filled the street and he could hear people passing by talking about it. He couldn't blame them either, that Nether roll was delicious. "I don't think she could hurt a sheep if she wanted. How has this city not chewed her up yet?"
"Not sure, but I suspect it has something to do with Wendy, Tara, James, and Henry."
"Why?"
"Let's just say there's a reason I don't like any of them and leave it at that."
...
"Hired assassins?"
"Yep."
"Did some hybrid work?"
"Am I really that easy to read?"
"Very." He chuckled, shoving his hands into his pockets. "You've got yourself a deal, Endie. I'll spare her, can't say anything for her friends, though."
"Does it sound like I mind?"
"I figured you wouldn't." Brine stretched, ready for sleep after the long night he's had. "But that whole city thing won't be for a while, not till I can justify it with Notch. That was the most painful respawn I've ever had and something tells me he'll make sure it's 10 times worse this time."
"Good. I'd like to keep my happy place for a while."
