"Well that was a shift."
"I knew we were going too far in."
"She said it all so bluntly I'm pretty sure any part is going too far."
I sighed, deciding to leave her be for now. I'm sure she's drinking mundane potions right now, trying to suppress it again. If there's anything I learned from her moving here, it's that. She'll tell you just about anything but she doesn't like getting emotional in front of anyone, so she'll drown herself in numbness potions till the threat of actually crying is delt with. She lived alone before; Did she always do this or was it just when she moved in with us? I don't know which answer is worse.
I lied my head back, tired from helping Brine all day. That is, until I froze and noticed I was lying on Brine's arm instead of the couch. When the the hell did he put that there?! I looked over to see he either hadn't noticed or didn't care. So like hell am I getting up now.
Again, thank god that woman is a lock box for anything I've said. It's not like I have a crush on him, but I don't know how he'd react if he knew the things she does.
"I blame you." I scoffed slightly.
"For what?"
"Making me care about yet another person."
"Pft, I didn't make you do anything, Brine." I chuckled. "Just admit it, you aren't that bad."
"No way. I'm the ruler of fear himself, dang it." He sounded annoyed but I knew otherwise. "Phantom killer of the mines, king of insanity-"
"Yadda yadda yadda." I butted in.
He scoffed but his laughing betrayed him. It went quiet after that but never completely quiet. What is that? A slight buzzing was coming from in front of us. We both sat up, apparently he had noticed too, and saw her bright purple mini-messenger on the table. It was vibrating every once and a while since she left it there. I swiped it up and turned it on.
"Privacy much?" Brine teased, leaning in to look himself.
"Worried best friend rules; I get to check."
"I'm so glad I keep mines on me."
"Like I want to see your hoes list."
"Hey!"
All of them seemed to be messages from her older brother about coming to visit them all except the last ones. 'Zach- We've got a problem.' Brine called Anna and she popped up in the kitchen door, sipping from an already half empty potion. She spotted the messenger and waved a hand.
"Ignore them. They've been trying to get me back home for a while."
"He says there's a problem." She paused before coming over again, plopping down on the table in front of us. I gave her the messenger back and she began typing, looking more than a little annoyed after. "What?"
"I might have to kill them after this." She sighed, getting up. I felt a bit guilty as I watched her, her usually happy disposition gone for probably at least a day. I knew it was a bad idea to ask. "Looks like you'll get to meet my brothers after all."
~~~
"Maybe there is a little dragon in her." Brine mumbled.
"Let's hope not." Endie answered.
They watched the small woman lead them through the city, deceivingly calm despite what she said earlier. Diamond Row is a surprisingly nice city, matched with a beautiful day and relatively calm atmosphere to the place. Part of that is due to her family needing both a cover and hating cities like Cobble Rock and the like.
She lead them to a square office building, entering a sleek lobby with a few people idling in it. She nodded to the receptionist before turning and going right into one of the rooms, waiting for them to join her. They followed her downstairs, noticing just how far down they were going. Endie stayed quiet but Brine was more than a little curious. He remembered the area but not this part.
"So where are we?"
"My brothers' main base."
"You still haven't said why."
"Someone took one of my brothers a month ago and they didn't tell me till now."
"Oh, so to beat them up?" He joked but she didn't.
"Absoulutely." He shared a look with Endie, than took out his messenger and snapped a pic, sending it to Ed. He snickered and Endie rolled his eyes, his smile betraying him. They made it all the way downstairs when she stopped. "I'm home!"
A few minutes later they heard running up the rest of the stairs. She leaned against the doorway before shooting her leg in front of the stairs. Arin was smart enough to jump over it, getting tackled down immediately after by the two brothers who did trip over it. Endie held in their laughing but Brine didn't even try. They froze and scrambled away, even in a disguise they remember that voice.
"Why'd you bring him with you?!" Arin asked. He yelped slightly when she grabbed the front of his shirt and yanked him down.
"He's the least of your problems right now." She answered, calm as ever but anger in her voice. He chuckled nervously, his brothers back away from the two. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Dang iiit, who told you?"
"Zach."
"Damn it."
"Why?"
"We were hoping to fix it before you found out. We didn't want to worry you." He answered, putting his hands up. "I swear that zombie talks to much."
"Seeing as it's been a month," He shrunk a little at the words. "It's a good thing he does."
"Thanks, Ann. Love you too." They heard from the stairs. He was smart enough to not even come into the room with her. She huffed and tossed him away from her, knocking over her other brothers like pins.
"Tell me next time."
"Noted." They all groaned.
